In the invisible town of Lumanatei, a little girl named Luan Hamanate was born. Her parents' names are Georgia Jahana and Gabriel Hamanate. Luan was a joyful and optimistic child growing up, she was always wearing a smile.
One of her most memorable friends growing up was Fara Jailo. When Luan was 6, she met Fara while playing kickball at school. Luan and Fara's relationship was strong, they were supportive of each other and had each other's backs, as all friends should. Although, as they grew older, Fara began to play with Luan's feelings by pretending to be mad at her. Luan did not take it the way Fara expected her to, though. Luan did not mind at all and would instead try to resolve the conflict instead of yelling at Fara. One day Fara snapped and yelled at Luan. "You're NO FUN!" she screeched. "I wish I never met you!" Luan was never able to understand Fara's words or motives. If Fara WAS trying to get under Luan's skin, it was best that the friendship ended right then and there, right? On the other hand, what if Luan was just boring to hang out with? Luan was upset but she never ceased to put a smile on her face when she walked into school. A couple of days after the incident, Luan received a call from Mrs. Jailo, saying Fara had unexpectedly ran away. Luan wanted to look for Fara. Maybe if Luan was successful in finding Fara, Fara would call her a 'true' friend and be nice to her again. The next day at school, Luan told her other friends, Kiko, Layla, and Jana about her decision. Kiko and the other 2 shook their heads and disapproved of Luan's choice. "Fara was a fake friend, she was only using you so she could let out all her feelings on someone she knew wouldn't care about her negative actions and would still be positive about everything," Layla said. Jana nodded in agreement. Luan was practically fuming at their response! How dare they make such assumptions! Deep down inside though, Luan knew her friends were right. When Junior High started, Fara acted like a new person. Fara was always trying to fit in, and Luan was always left in the dust! Luan was just a punching bag to Fara, and you couldn't say otherwise. It was just a fact. Luan still found a way to make the situation a little better, though. At least someone else benefited from that experience.. She thought. After that, Luan learned it wasn't okay to be in an unhealthy, abusive relationship. She learned to not be so dense when it came to those types of relationships. Luan successfully evaded any horrible relationships after the unholy incident.
Luan became much closer to Layla,Kiko, and Jana. They connected loose ends that were disconnected when Fara came into the picture all those years ago. One day though, another trauma happened in Luan's life. In 10th grade, things started to crumble. One day, Jana didn't show up to school. Layla usually walks with Jana so Luan asked Layla where Jana was. Layla's smile quickly turned into a frown at the mention of Jana's name. "Jana's dad is a spy from the city of Aeri!" Kiko blurted out. Unfortunately, she was loud enough so that everyone could hear her. The cafeteria erupted into a series of whispers. From that day on, Luan was never treated the same by people outside her friend group. They would call her names, like "The Mafia's Friend" or "The Victim". Some people just ignored her, others signed her up for meetings with the counselor in fear that Jana did something to hurt Luan. Luan couldn't keep her smile on this time around. Luan was so confused once again. Did Jana know of her dad's job? Was it all a false accusation, or was it the real deal? Eventually, Luan wrote a letter to Jana that was addressed to Jana's home, if she was even still in it, to which Jana responded,
"I'm sorry Luan, my family is being banished to the city of Aeri which is at least 2 regions from here. My father was born in Aeri, and came here after a gang started to hunt him down in his teenage years. That's when he met my mother and she helped him settle in. Some people found out he originated from Aeri, and they thought he was a spy, since our town is invisible and you can only access it if someone lets you in. The queen showed no mercy to my mother and I though. She said we could either leave with our father, or face serious consequences: execution, imprisonment, slavery, etc. I'm going to miss you all. Please don't share this letter with anyone else. I don't want to cause a huge conflict over someone who has already left." -Jana Pero
Luan was in tears after reading the letter. She had lost a friend once again, and was, again, powerless! She wanted to share the letter, but she remembered Jana's warning. Jana was a wise girl, so Luan didn't dare challenge Jana's claim. After high school, Luan moved on. She was really only friends with Kiko now. Layla tried to clear her history of ever being friends with Jana. She cleared it all up by saying she only wanted Jana to do her homework, which was believable since Jana was a straight-A student. Kiko on the other hand, kept her connections with Jana public. When someone would start up a conversation with her, and bring the topic to Jana, Kiko would always talk about what great friends they were, as if trying to cover up the fact she might've been a threat to everyone. Luan supported Kiko all the way through. Luan realized that, if she were to stay friends with Layla, who didn't want to remember Jana, the friendship wouldn't work out. She remembered Fara and immediately ended her friendship with Layla, despite her wanting to hang out with Layla.
When Luan was 20, and still living in Lumanatei, she saw a local newspaper dispenser, and checked it out. Luan had matured a lot and kept her connections with Kiko. Luan was still as positive as can be, and would smile at everyone. On the newspaper it read,
"Strange evil activity going on near temples that contain the sacred gems, possibly someone trying to steal it. Guardians have reported a lingering female with jade-colored hair and a strange hair-do mouthing words from a magical book near the temples. If you spot her, turn her into authorities immediately. She must be interviewed before any punishment can occur, so please do not kill or hurt her in any way possible. Extra protection at temples is appreciated."
It was strange to see, and Luan was a powerful girl, she had mastered her light magic to its full potential. She walked to the library and read some books in the history section to maybe find out more about the woman. Instead, she read in a couple of books that those who wield all 20 core gems, could put an end to all evil, and even most good magic, that confronts them. She would need some help, though. The guardians wouldn't just hand over a powerful item to a random 20-year old. Surely she could find a couple of friends, or strangers, that could band together with her to possibly stop that woman?
