Chapter 30

"Ano ba kayo, kayang kaya yan ni Jules. Kinaya niya nga ma under si Sir Demitri." Natatawang sagot ni Mang Tomas. "Kung makapag alala kayo diyan akala niyo kayo ang asawa."

"Manahimik ka Tomas, kanina lang halos maiwan mo pa tsinelas mo. Dalawa sana kayo ni Sir na mukhang baliw." Natawa at nailing na lang ako sa kanilang tatlo.

Pumasok na ako sa loob ng emergency room. Si Andro pala ang attending resident ngayon. He gave me a small smile and a nod as I walked towards him. We didn't had any conversation besides when Trei introduced me to him. Akala ko nga sobrang daldal niya, but it turns out he's just talkative to people he is close with.

"Your cousin's in bed three. We already contacted her Ob-gyne." He said as I approached him. I nodded my head.

"Thanks." He was about to leave when I called his name again. "Have you heard from Trei?"

"No. Why?" Nakakunot ang noo na tanong niya sa akin.

"Kanina ko pa kasi siya hinihintay na sunduin ako kaso wala pa rin siya hanggang ngayon. I tried calling him but he's not answering, which is really unusual." Napa-isip naman si Andro. I don't want to burden him since he still has other patients that he needs to attend to. "Sorry for the trouble."

"I'll tell you if he contacted me." I answered him with a smile and he smiled back at me before he attended other patients.

I walked towards where Ate Julian's bed is and I can already hear her voice nagging at Kuya Demitri. Napailing na lang ako.

"Pangalawang beses na akong manganganak pero balisa ka pa rin. Ano ka ba Demitrius? Tignan mo nga yang tsinelas na soot mo. Naku ka talaga." Natatawang sumilip ako sa kurtina. Kuya Demitri didn't answer and he sighed. Ate Jules suddenly grabbed his face and softly kissed his lips. "Pinag usapan na natin to di ba?"

I remember last time Ate Jules called me and told me that she and her husband is having about her babies delivery. She's having twins. Sabi niya masiyado ding malaki ang mga bata kaya nag suggest ang doctor ng cesarian which is safer for both the baby and her. Kaso matigas ang ulo niya. Gusto niya normal delivery, and kuya Demitri was worried and he's trying to convince her to have a cesarian operation. Which frustrates her.

Sabi niya nabanggit lang naman ng doctor. Hindi naman sinabi ng doctor na yun na dapat ang gawin nila kaso over daw makapag react si Kuya Demitri.

But I understand him. He just love my cousin so much.

"I'm just... worried. What if—"

"Sshh. I'll be fine. Sabi naman ni Doc healthy naman ako for normal delivery, di ba?" Kuya Demitri unwillingly nodded his head. Ate kissed him on the cheek bago siya nagsimulang magbilin kay Kuya ulit na kitang-kita na nakikinig ng mabuti. Napangiti ako.

I really appreciate how Kuya Demitri takes care of Ate Jules. My cousin deserves that kind of love.

"Ate Jules." Tawag ko sa kanya. Natigil naman siya sa pagsasalita.

I looked at Kuya Demitri na magulo ang buhok. Naka tshirt at pantalon. Ngayon ko lang din napansin ang soot niyang tsinelas, yung isa kulay black, yung isa naman kulay pink. Parehos tsinelas pang loob. I pursed my lips to prevent myself from laughing.

"Jude, andito ka pala. Nasa trabaho ka ba kanina?" I nodded my head. "Nasan si Trei?"

"Papunta na. Susunduin ako." She smiled at me. "How are you feeling?"

Kuya Demitri excused himself at binilin sa akin si ate. Titignan lang daw niya kung dumating na yung sapatos niya.

"Masiyadong nag aalala yung asawa mo." Natatawang sabi ko sa kanya. Natawa din siya tapos ngumiwi.

"Oo nga kaya sinusubukan ko talaga na wag ipakita sa kanya kung gaano kahirap mag labor." Huminga siya ng malalim ng ilang beses. I looked at her as she caressed her big stomach.

In a few months, ganyan na din ang tiyan ko. I feel excited and nervous at the same time. Hindi ko mapigilan ang mapahawak sa tiyan ko. I looked at Ate Jules and she was staring back at me. I grinned at her.

"Ate, buntis din ako." Nanlaki ang mga mata niya. Then she started to cry.

Tapos hindi ko na rin mapigilan naiyak na din ako.

Tapos nagyayakapan na kami at nag iiyakan na parang bata.

Ewan ko ba. It just felt like tears are the only way for us to show how much we are glad for each other's happiness. We just wanted to have a good life and in the end, we got what we wanted. Sobra-sobra pa nga.

"What happened? Why are you both crying?" Nag aalalang tanong ni Kuya Demitri at hinila upang binuksan ang bintana.

Tumayo na ako ng maayos at nag punas ng luha nang biglang nagkagulo ang emergency room. Nurses was suddenly attending to the patient that was brought inside on a stretcher. Dumaan sila sa likod ni Demitri kaya nakita ko kung sino ang nakahiga doon.

My world stopped.

And I suddenly can't move.

I can't breathe.

It was like my whole body was frozen and it stopped functioning when I saw the person unconscious and was covered in blood.

"Trei."
