Chapter Three

A soft knock wakes me up. "Come in." I sit up and realise I fell asleep in my clothes from yesterday.

"Hey! Class starts in half an hour, so you should probably get ready." Jubilee smiles as Jean and Ororo stand behind her.

"Thanks!" I smile as they walk out and close my door. Walking over to my closet, I start to sift through my clothes. Maybe I could go shopping with my new friends soon. I grab a pair of high waisted denim shorts and a white Coca-Cola shirt before putting my hair into a ponytail and walking out.

"Hey, cowgirl." Peter smiles and walks with me to History, a class we have together with Kurt. As we all sit down, our teacher comes in and we start to talk about World War One. History has always been very interesting to me so I don't have a hard time paying attention. I notice Peter dozing off and laugh quietly to myself. Soon the bell rings and I walk to my literature class with Professor Xavier and Scott. Since he's the only person I know, I decide to go sit near him. He doesn't really look at me until I say hello.

"Hey, Natalia." Scott says, glancing at me before looking at the professor.

"Today starts a new project for this class. Pick a classic novel from the list I'm going to hand you and you shall partner up with whoever you're next to. Provide an explanation of what this book means to you. Papers are due by the end of the semester." Papers begin to float toward us.

"A Tale Of Two Cities, Romeo and Juliet, or Animal Farm." Scott reads and faces me.

"I like Romeo and Juliet." I smile and he nods and circles the option on the paper. I can see myself in the reflection of his sunglasses.

"Stop staring at me." He says.

"Actually, I'm staring at my reflection." I joke and he sighs.

"You're so conceited."

"That's what you like about me." I flirt and he sighs again.

"Let's meet at the library after classes to start reading."

"Yes sir." I smile and this time he smiles back.

Jubilee and I are walking to the library from our last class, geometry, when Peter zooms next to us.

"Hey losers!" He grins and puts an arm around each of us.

"Hey! I was just inviting Natalia to the mall on Saturday." Jubilee explains to Peter who nods.

"Yeah, you gotta come! Better than an old saloon." We stop in front of the library and I smile.

"Yeah, of course! As long as they have sarsaparilla." I laugh and then open the doors. I see Scott at an otherwise empty table and he has a copy of the book with him.

"Hey, I was waiting and decided to just grab the book." He states as I set my bag next to me.

"Thanks! Let's get started. I think we should read it then analyse." I open the book and start to read.

"Two households, both alike in dignity, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean." Scott leaned over my shoulder to look at the words. "From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life; Whole misadventured piteous overthrows. Do with their death bury their parents' strife." I felt him shift a tiny bit closer and my hair stood on the back of my neck. The soft lighting makes him look attractive as his lips move when he read the next stanza. His nose gently sloped and held up his ruby glasses and his eyebrows lightly furrowed as he concentrated. Oh, how I wish I could see his eyes. Just as I was starting to take note of his messy hair, he turned to look at me.

"Natalia?" He asks.

"Hmm? What? Oh!" I keep reading from where I thought he had left off and didn't stare anymore. Soon we were halfway through the book and I yawn.

"Scott, I'm so tired. Can we take a break?" I whine to him and he chuckles.

"Sure, the lounge has some drinks. Let's head there." Scott leaves his bag and the book since the lounge was just across the hall.

Jubilee, Jean, and Ororo were in the lounge watching TV when we walked in.

"Hey, guys! What were you doing?" Jubilee's eyebrows perk up as she saw us.

"Doing our project in the library." Scott answers as I grab a soda for each of us.

"Have fun." Jean smiles.

"Be safe." Ororo laughs.

I roll my eyes at them and we walk back to the library. Scott picks up the book but then looks at me.

"I really don't want to read this anymore. It's getting kind of depressing." He took a sip of his soda and pushed the book aside.

"Let's just talk then." I suggest and lean into my hand.

Scott nods and sits back in his chair. "So. Elements?"

"Yeah, lasers?" I smirk.

"Concussive beams, actually." He huffs and sits back upright.

"Thanks for the welcome note." I smile and he nods.

"Jubilee's idea."

We sit quietly for awhile. I start to doodle some flowers and he works on other homework but after awhile I get restless and I bounce my legs up and down.

"Can you cut that out?"

"What?"

"The leg thing, I can't concentrate."

"This leg thing?" I start to bounce my leg against his and he sighs and moves to another table.

Alright now, a smart woman would have stopped there or maybe even apologised. But this woman? This woman is a Dumb Bitch™️, so I sit on top of his table and stare at him until he looks up.

"Do you mind, Natalia?"

"No, I'm good." I smile and wink.

"You're insufferable."

"Aww, thank you."
