Frozen stiff. They couldn't move.
Sat in a non-spacious living room they watched, and never dared make a sound. He was gone, he didn't deserve it. James had the world to explore and a life to live...never could this happen.
Watching the dim-lit television in a shivering dark room, they heard the news of the murder of their dear friend. One of them had to speak sooner or later, but nobody had to courage to speak first. Maybe a cough could break the silence? a sign? but nothing could b
reak it. They just sat there on the cold withering leather couch, it almost felt like the air in the room turned to poison and caused their throats to mute.
Michael, Alex and Carter. Three normal nineteen year old boys living together in a two bedroom flat in east side Glasgow, although the flat once held four. A nervous repetitive tap of the finger came from Carter sitting on the side edge of the couch, in an attempt to break the silence, which worked.
"What are we going to do now?" Carter says with a wimp stumbling through his voice.
Silence.
"I assume we have to pull out the boxes and clear his stuff for the family to sort through" Alex speaks coldly.
"I don't think we can manage the act of that yet.." Michael paused. "It's just too soon for that".
The room then fell back into silence, the air seemed to be getting colder and thicker by the second, every breath had a slight chill to it.
Then the boys shook from a knock at the door, although finally something that broke the tension.
Without a word Carter stepped up to answer the door, for his journey down the creaking hallway; the flat was cheap so that was expected. Answering the door stood a man of what seemed to be pure sophistication and formality. Tall and charming although balding a little, there was a brief glare of around four seconds.
"Hello, can I help you?" Carter speaks
"Yes I would like to know if Alexander Joseph Miller lives here?" This must be serious if Alex's full name is being used. Carter didn't like this one bit.
"Yeah, do you know each other?"
"Not yet no but I would like to meet him if that's alright, I'm with the services" He then shows his badge from his inner coat pocket, Carter took note of how uneasily expensive the coat looked; almost intimidating.
"Oh yeah he's just inside, come on in" Something feels strange about this man Carter thinks to himself.
With now two men walking down the creaky hallway it seems to echo through the apartment. They reach the living room where Micheal and Alex still sat on the couch in the same position Carter had left them in. This was now going to get interesting as soon as the man helped himself to a seat. What will he say next...
