News travels fast in Mystic Falls. It's not necessarily a small town, but everyone knows everyone. There are families that have lived here for centuries. Founded in 1860 by the founding families, Mystic Falls has a long, gory history of hosting vampires, witches and werewolves, as-well-as other supernatural beings. Mystic Falls is an uncanny village, hiding a deep, black dirty secret.
Hope Mikaelson also hides a deep, gory secret. Half of her family are bloodsucking vampires, funnily enough. Her father, a stoic man called Klaus Mikaelson, had left her two years ago, believing that too many people were out to get him - to get his family, and everyone knows you never come after a Mikaelson. Out of paranoia and love for his family, he had hastily decided to leave his beloved daughter behind, in the hopes of directing their constant threat elsewhere. When her mother died and her father left, that was when things started to get rocky.
Although she still had a loving aunt and uncle, her dear Elijah and Rebekah, once she had lost her father and her mother, Hope was, well, never the same again. She went from having it all to having nothing. Her mothers' death was a constant weight upon her shoulders and guilt filled and filled and filled her up as the years went on. Her calm and loving nature had seemed to dissipate and was replaced with her father's paranoia and her mother's short temper. High school was a struggle for her, and every day she seemed to get worse and worse.
Josie Saltzman was a sweet and precious little girl growing up. She was one of those children who were happy and amazed by everything that her brown eyes fell upon. Always asking questions, curious about everything. She wanted to travel the world and meet new people, do new things. Josie was content to play second fiddle to her sister Lizzie, per usual. Due to her sister suffering from serious bipolar issues, Josie is always the level headed one out of the two, the one to constantly calm down and reassure her sister. She has spent half of her life doing so. The twins need for their father's approval and love is uncharted.
"Hello? Is there anyone in there?" Lizzie mockingly knocked on Josie's head, making Josie snap out of her drowning thoughts to push Lizzie's hand away.
"Where did you go?" Lizzie asked, cocking an eyebrow. "You better not be thinking about You-know-who, I've told you about this Josie, you can't expect to get over the literal incarnation of satan if you allow yourself to daydr-"
"Can you shut up for two seconds?" Josie snapped hastily. She rubbed her temples roughly and sighed heavily before apologising to her sister.
"I didn't mean to snap, I'm drowning in homework and the last thing I want to talk about is my self-righteous ex."
She was sat at her desk, paper everywhere and classical music could be heard softly playing in the background. She wished at times like these that she didn't share a room with her sister. Although she loved her sister to death, she was too much sometimes.
Their current house was much bigger than their last one. Their dad had finally been promoted to Principle at Mystic Falls Highschool, a position Josie and Lizzie didn't know if they liked or not. The twins could have had their own room, but being as close as they are they'd ultimately decided to share a room, and turn the spare on into a gym. Lizzie found it helpful to punch something when she was suffering a little on the inside.
Lizzie's phone went off suddenly, and as she glanced down at her notification she let out a hefty sigh and fell back onto her bed, groaning and placing a hand on her forehead. "For the love of God, please leave me alone!"
"I don't understand why you don't just give MG a chance, he's quite clearly in love with you. It's insensitive of you to ignore his feelings the way you do."
"MG is a kid who has spent his whole life putting on a show. I don't want that."
"Why are you acting like you don't walk out of our front door every day and put on a show for everyone at school? You're a hypocrite, MG has had a tough life, I would know."
