Challenge #7 (part 2)

Start from the beginning

His attempts were in vein.

For the first time in more than ten years Lucas had looked Caius directly in the face and he had not known the man staring back at him. His friend had lost himself in his own need for revenge. His friend was dead, and had been replaced by a blood-thirty soldier.

--------------

Aufidius pressed the gun against the black material that covered Caius's chest. The barrel of the gun resting directly over his heart as Aufidius stared at him in wonder, his golden eyes glittering in the torchlight.

"Why?" Aufidius asked finally, "Why would you wish for death?"

"I have been betrayed by people, who after everything I have done for them, should worship me." Caius's azure eyes flashed dangerously as he spoke. "If I can not have my revenge then I would gladly choose my own death rather than live with this anger."

The two men held their gazes, fire-gold and ice-blue. Each testing the others resolve.

"How to do you wish to take out your revenge on them?" Aufidius asked, taking another step towards Caius.

They were so close now, the gun resting in-between both of their chests, as they breathed the same air.

"To take away the victory I won for them." Caius answered, his voice low and full of bitter hatred, "I wish to fight along side you. With the both of us fighting together they won't stand a chance."

There was a long beat of silence. Caius could feel his heart pounding desperately as the seconds ticked by. Despite what he had said Caius did not wish to die there. He tried to breath normally as he waited for General Benjamin Aufidius to decide his fate.

---------------

After Lucas's failed attempt to talk Caius back from the brink of insanity, Victoria and Olivia decided to go. If Caius's oldest friend couldn't convince him that he was heading down a path that would eventually lead him to his own destruction, maybe his mother and wife could.

---------

Aufidius finally made his move. He grabbed a hold of Caius's black top, the gun fell to the ground, and yanked him forward so that their lips connected.

The kiss was ruff and full of battle lust. It wasn't romantic in any form, the kiss was more like a contract between them. A contract to fight along side each other until the end, Comrades-in-arms. Less than a second after the kiss started, their lips parted and it was done. Benjamin Aufidius had accepted him. Caius would have his revenge.

"Oh thank god." Caius cried out with a laugh, as the two embraced.

-------------

The sky outside was painted with pale pinks and soft oranges as the sun set over the horizon. It had been nearly a month since Caius Martius and Benjamin Aufidius had agreed to work together, and they're plans to win the war were already well underway. It was on this promising night as the two Generals, along with a few others, discussed battle strategies, that Olivia, Victoria and William Martius arrived at their front door.

Caius froze in shock the moment his mother, with his son in her arms, came through the door.

"Mother? William? What are you doing here?" Caius asked as he stood up from his chair, completely flabbergasted.

The two just stared at him not saying a word, just as Olivia entered.

"Oh dear sweet Olivia." Caius breathed out, utterly spellbound by his wife's appearance.
