Most people my age worry about whether they'll fit in to their prom dress, or if their makeup looks nice for their next date. But not me, you see, I have different worry's. Like, will the shadows come for me? Well by now you've probably guessed that I'm not your average teen, well you're right, I'm a little...different.
Hmmm...where should I start? Well after I was born my parents "mysteriously died", well that's what I've been told. Anyway, I was put in a foster home with this really nice family, in a really nice neighbourhood and I was happy. Well now you're almost definitely confused, what have I got to worry about? This is where the story starts, so buckle up and get ready for weird...
It all started on a bright summer day. The birds were chirping and children were playing. Oh, who am I kidding? It was raining, heavily. There were no birds chirping and no fun to be had outside. If you're looking for a bright, happy story then go elsewhere, this is not the book for you.
Ok, enough procrastinating, I will finally get on so you can see what all the fuss is about. So, it was raining, I was bored and wanted to go out. Wait! I totally forgot to tell you what I look like! Sorry. Well, I'm tallish, and have long brown hair. My eyes are green-brown, and I have freckles. I'm not that skinny, but we won't talk about that. Oh, and my name is Heather and I'm fifteen.
Sorry I will now, finally get on with my story.
Where was I, yes, the rainy day. For pretty much the whole morning I had slumped around staring out of my window into the miserable weather. Then my sister, Amber, wandered in. She was almost eighteen and couldn't wait.
'Hey Heather, whatcha doin'?'She said in bored voice. 'Nothing much.'I sighed. She gave me a long stare, then said 'Well, do you wanna go out then?' It was my turn to stare at her.
'In this weather! Are you crazy?' I put my hand up, and gestured lazily at the window. 'I wonder why anyone would say no, it's such a nice day.' I said sarcastically, turning to stare at the pouring rain. 'Well, I'll just be downstairs if you change your mind.' Amber called, walking out of the room. As you can probably tell, my life was quit normal up until this point. But the next day is when it really gets messed up.
I am thankful to tell you that the next day it was not raining, but the sky was full of dark, ominous clouds, threatening to dampen the ground once more. I wish now that it did rain, and what happened, never did. Sorry! got sidetracked, again! Let me carry on. As the weather was kinda nice, I decided to go for a walk, cause, why not? Anyway, I was walking past the old mine when I heard some strange noises coming from the cave. So I did the stupidest thing that I could have done, and went to investigate, by myself. I found a hole in the fence around the mine, that was trying to stop people like me from going in, and slipped through. The ground was very rough and rocky, but I carried on stumbling across stony ground. When I finally got to the entrance, I could see that it was likely to fall down any day now. But that didn't stop me, it's that stupid thing that teenagers have that make them fearless, and their curiosity overtakes their sense. There's probably some fancy, scientific name for it or something. Anyway! (Oops, got sidetracked, again!) I walked inside, and there was loads of old mine carts and pick axes and stuff like that. Well at least I can tell you that I did have an old torch in my coat pocket, from the night walk I did with my mum and sister recently. As I walked along I could see the torch casting long shadows onto the walls, the soft golden glow rippling along the walls. As I got deeper the shadows got darker, all I could hear was my own foot steps, echoing into the seemingly endless darned as I trudged along the abandoned tunnel. Suddenly, a shadow started moving towards me, I screamed and started to frantically wander if I was going crazy. My whole body was paralysed with fear, my heart thumping. The shadow started forming in to a human and then, a boy about my age stood there staring at me, his eyes glistening through the darkness of the tunnel.
