"Time & date of birth; 31st of October at approximately 7:00pm". The doctor began cleaning up the newborn and wrapping him in a warm polyester blanket, protecting him from the stale cold hospital air.
He placed the baby boy in mother's arms. She immediately embraced her new child and kissed him on the forehead.
"And what will you be naming him, Ms. Richmond?" the doctor asked.
"Kelgreen. Kelgreen Richmond." she responded smiling proudly.
"Now when her ass getting discharged? I'm missing all these plays and shit sittin' in this muthafucka!" her baby's dad shouted.
"Umm, she'd have to recover first so I'd say a week at least" the doctor responded. Her lover responded to this by getting up and walking towards the door.
"Fuck this shit." he said before leaving. Vera shed a tear as she signed her son's birth certificate.
She knew trusting someone and giving them her whole heart would eventually fail in the end.
But in the years following, she'll realize she had a capable man all along who was ready to take care of her, love her and protect her, no matter the consequences.
That man was sitting right in her arms. Kelgreen Richmond.
