Mornings. Who invented them? I mean seriously nothing about them in any way, shape, or form is appealing. I glance at my clock to see it glowing the numbers 6:47 am. Please shoot me. I groan as I pull myself from my messy bed and I walk in the bathroom across the hall. Looking at myself I see a sad sight. A girl with messy brown hair, big brown eyes surrounded by dark circles, ghostly-looking olive skin and big pink lips with a split down the middle. There are burses and cuts elsewhere on my body but I won't get into that at the moment. But yeah...that's me. Year 11 and dying. Not literally but I don't like being a senior, so much work and pressure! I wash my face and then trudge my way downstairs. Upon entering the kitchen I see my older brother at the stove cooking pancakes. He looks up as I walk next to him.
'What do you want?' He knows I'm up to no good. I smile as innocently as possible before stealing two of his pancakes off the plate. 'Give them back!' He puts down the spatula he was holding and runs at me. We start laughing as he chases me around the island. My brother is only a year older than me so we are both doing our HSC, he starts in a few months. Even though mine is next year I still gotta prep for it.
'What are you two doing!? It's too early for this noise.' My mum walks into the kitchen to see us fighting over the pancakes. 'Ray, get off your sister, you look like you're squashing her' Ray rolls off me still laughing.
'Only this once youngling' He glares at me then starts laughing again. 'Sorry mum we both have period 0 classes so I thought I'd make something nice to start our day' My mum just shakes her head and goes back to bed.
'Awe thanks Ray Ray' I say in a baby voice while pinching his cheeks.
'Shut ya face Hay' I roll my eyes at the nickname, walking upstairs again to get ready for school. I pull out the white button-down shirt sporting our school crest, the blue pleated skirt, a pair of knee-high white socks and my doc martins. I don't mind having a uniform because mine isn't as bad as most. All schools in Australia have uniforms and most are ghastly especially the private schools with their long skirts. Ew. Not saying my skirt is short it is a little below mid-thigh. Perfect length in my opinion. I head back into the bathroom and grab my brush. I start trying to detangle my wild bedhead. Once I get out all the knots I straighten it and pull on my black beanie, brushing my fingers through my thin fringe so it covers my forehead. I grab my makeup bag and take out my foundation, concealer, eyeliner, mascara, highlighter and lip gloss. I apply it then put on my uniform, followed by my shoes. I go and grab my binder along with my laptop and phone from my desk then I head back downstairs. Ray is at the door pulling on his shoes.
'Come on Ray, the bus is gonna be here soon' I say looking at my phone. He rolls his eyes but gets up leaving his laces undone. 'Bye mum!'
'See ya later Mother dearest!' Ray and I holler as we walk out. We jog out to the bus stop at the end of our street just as it pulls into our stop. I smile as I see a familiar pink head. I run harder and jump onto my best friend Kayla. She screams profanities but then sees it's me and starts laughing, Ray is laughing as well.
'Hiya Mooney, you scared the living daylights out of me!'
'But Mushi it was funny!' I whine while ruffling her hair as we walk to the back of the bus. Mushi has been my nickname for Kayla since primary school. She calls me Mooney after my favourite Harry Potter character. As we go to sit in our usual spots there is a group of 5 boys sitting where we sit. The bus starts pulling away from the sidewalk and I almost lose my footing. I stare at them with my eyebrow raised and my arms crossed. I may be short but I can be intimidating as hell. One of them looks up and smirks.
'Can we help you?' He quirks his eyebrows and laughs looking at his friends.
'Move' I glare down at him.
'No I'm quite comfortable here' He smirks again. He is wearing my school uniform but I've never seen him before so he must be new. Time to teach him a lesson.
'Listen here asshole you must be new so I'll fill you in, on this bus, I sit here. Now move or I'll make you move'
'Mate I'd listen to her if I were you. She's been suspended many times for beating up boys who try and take her spot. She's such a freak but she throws one hell of a punch' Brandon says from the front of the bus. He's one of the "cool" kids at my school. I smirk and look at him. The other boys around him get up and move looking scared. But this worm stays put. Right he's gonna cop it.
'What's your name?'
'Tarron'
'Well Tarron, you've just earned yourself a one-way ticket to hell. Watch your back' I am close to his face and I don't miss the flicker of terror that flits across his eyes. I grab the front of his shirt and yank him forward. Tarron stumbles and sprawls on the floor of the bus. I smile and take my seat, propping my feet up on the chair while leaning against the window. Kayla sits across from me sniggering. This has happened too many times already and it always ends up the same.
