I love you, and I've loved you for years. Somehow I knew that despite everything that was in our way, I knew that we were meant for each other. That this feeling I had wasn't just my own. I wanted to believe that we could be together. I wanted to believe that you wanted me just as much as I wanted you, that you needed me.
The moment you came to me announcing your engagement to another woman, my heart shattered.
You didn't bat an eyelid. You left me to pick up the pieces of a broken heart that solely beat for you. My love for you was broken, but I remained by your side, where I had always been.
I protected you, I saved your life. I helped you pick out your suit and tie for the ceremony, whilst deep down I wanted to scream!
'Look at me!'
But I bit my tongue and laughed along with the stories you loved to tell about her. It was almost as if you forgot about us, what we were...
Then you slipped up.
You called me by the old term of endearment that you used to use.
The one word that sends chills down my spine and makes me cringe thinking about what it used to mean to me...to us. Your eyes were wide in fear, and you clammed up as if it still meant something. You hid your face and asked me to forget.
How could I?
