As an update, (y/n) finally allowed Steve and Nancy to sit with her at lunch.

They were a nice couple, but sometimes Nancy did seem a little put off by Steve, especially when Jonathan Byers was around. Steve never noticed, and (y/n) felt it was not her place to mention anything to Steve.

As Billy and (y/n) reached their class, Steve was just opening the door to step in. He glanced at (y/n) and Billy before walking in.

Billy took no notice of this and blocked (y/n) before she could go inside. "Say you'll go to the party."

"No."

"I'll make us both late to class if you don't."

"You say that like I care."

"I would think you do. You're the teacher's pet. Come on. Say you'll go."

A group of popular girls walked by, eyeing Billy and (y/n). They scoffed, jealous, no doubt wanting to be in (y/n)'s shoes. She'd be glad to trade. Billy was actually very easy on the eyes, but he was so full of himself.

"I'll think about it." She finally replied.

Billy smiled and slowly nodded as he processed this answer. "Alright. I'll take it." He stepped aside and let (y/n) walk in, he himself following in after her.

(Y/n) felt Steve's eyes staring at her as she walked in. She sat down and the bell rang seconds after.

**************

"So what were you and Billy talking about so cozied up outside of first period?" Steve asked during lunch.

Nancy widened her eyes and put down her sandwich, brushing her hands together to get the crumbs off her fingers. "Do tell."

(Y/n) rolled her eyes. "It was nothing. He just wanted to know if I was going to the big party on Halloween." She poked around at the tray in front of her, not really eating much except for the tater tots.

"Are you going?" Steve asked.

(Y/n) shook her head no.

"Why?! You have to go. It would be a great opportunity for you to make new friends. Maybe even find a nice boy that's not Billy Hargrove." Nancy said.

Steve only nodded.

"Alright. It's not a definite yes but, I'll try."

Nancy smiled. Just then the bell rang to go to class. "I'm off to class. (Y/n) please make sure Steve gets there with you. I'll see you after school."

Steve kissed her and Nancy walked away. The way Steve looked at her as she left was so...loving. Deep down (y/n) wondered what it would be like to have someone be that much in love with her.

"Ready to go?" Steve asked.

(Y/n) got up in response. Steve stood up with her, and they began to walk together to class.

"You freak me out alittle, you know." Steve said.

(Y/n) widened her eyes. " Well that's nice."

"I mean it in a good way. You're not like most people here, you're not a follower. I'm just happy we became friends. So much for your previous plans to be a loner." Steve smiled.

(Y/n) rolled her eyes and mimicked Steve, getting a laugh in response.

"So, IF you go, what are you gonna dress up as?" Steve asked, looking down at (y/n) while they walked.

"The new kid on the block." (Y/n) bluntly replied.

"Oh come on. You could be something better, like.....a zombie bride, or Frankenstein's wife, or a hippie. Hell, maybe even Roger Taylor in the I Want to Break Free music video!"

(Y/n) laughed. "If I go, I'll buy cheap animal ears at the store, put those on and paint my face. Easy enough."

"Pfft. Boring."

(Y/n) playfully pushed Steve aside. She thought about it. She made friends easily enough here. The school was JUST starting to like her. There's been no incidents, accidents or anything of the sort.

Maybe (y/n) was getting more control and confidence over her...gifts. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to attend the party then. Nothing bad could possibly happen. Right?

(Y/n) and Steve made it to class on time, sitting at their table at the end of the classroom.

Mid-lecture, while the teacher's back was turned, (y/n) passed Steve a note.

I'll be at the party around 7pm. Don't be late. I'll pick up Nancy and should be getting there at that time.

(Y/n) pocketed the note. Seems like she'll be heading to that party afterall.
