Your eyes flew open as your alarm started blaring. For a moment you just laid there, staring out into the dark room while you waited for your body to catch up. You sucked in a deep breath and leaned over to turn your alarm off. Sitting up and rubbing the sleep out of your eyes.

You stood up from the warm bed on groggy legs. Wanting nothing more than to ignore everything and just lay back down. Your mother would kill you if you did though, and you quite preferred to live. You went over to your dresser and searched for your clothes for the day. After finding them you went into the bathroom to get ready for the day.

You finished with giving your hair a quick brush, then returned to your room to get your bag ready for school. You grabbed all your supplies plus the other stuff you usually brought for entertainment. After packing that all into your bag you grabbed your coat and exited your room.

You walked into the kitchen to see if there was something you could bite into real quick. The house was still dark, as your parents were already gone to work. Your younger brother was still asleep, but your older sister would be by in an hour to get him up and ready.

You quickly spread some jam on a piece of bread and went around the house to make sure everything was locked before leaving. You were kinda paranoid when it came to house safety, often checking more than once to make sure something was properly closed or locked. But hey, better safe than sorry right?

The school was only about a ten-minute walk from your house so you never took the bus. The morning air was cold as it was almost winter, only about a month away. You lost yourself in thought as you made your way to high school. You were an 18 year old senior and you were a little nervous about what you were going to do after graduation.

you wish you could say that you had at least an idea but that would be too much to ask for. You had absolutely no clue. 'let's just get through the day' you told yourself as you saw the school come up in sight. You walked a bit faster the rest of the way and entered through one of the side doors when you arrived. Finding your way to your first hour.

You walked by the ton of people making their own way to their classes, some bumping into you so hard you almost lost your balance, but they didn't give you a second glance. You just rolled your eyes and continued walking to class. You had math the first hour, and you absolutely hated it, but you would hold through. Even if the trimester just barely started and classes didn't even really get into their stuff yet.

You walked in right at the bell rang and quickly took your seat. The reason you hated math was that it just didn't make sense, Maybe if they ever told you when you would use it outside of learning it than you'd understand it a little more. You were only taking it so you could graduate. You listened as the teacher droned on about the next time of equation. You heard the teacher talking, but your mind was elsewhere. A minute later a hand slammed down on your desk making you jump out of your thoughts. Your angry math teacher was glaring down at you.

" Miss L/N if you would pay attention that would be lovely. I would prefer if you graduated." She said to you in her high pitched nasal voice. You just nodded in reply as she turned around and continued her lesson. Your mind wandering off again as soon as she turned her back. The hours flew by in a blur until you got to one of the only classes that you were excited for.

Criminal psychology

As said before, the trimester started not too long ago, so nothing really has happened yet, but you were excited for what was to come. You always listened intently in this class, always wanting to soak up every last bit of information there was to be learned.

Today the teacher was just doing introductions to the unit, to what you would be learning about, so there wasn't much to soak up today. When the bell rang it was time to head to lunch. You had lunch with your two best friends, it was the only time of the day you got to chat with them so you were pretty excited.

You entered the lunchroom, getting in line to receive your meal and then sat down with your friends when you spotted them. You sat down across from your friend Destiny. She had light fire orange hair and bright brown eyes that had flecks of amber in them. She was known for her sweet and caring nature, always wanting to please someone.

Next to her sat your other friend Charlie. He was tall and skinny with a pale complexion and chocolate brown hair, He had big glasses that sat on the bridge of his nose. He had the biggest crush on Destiny, who was a little oblivious to that fact.

" Hey guys." you said to them as you sat down, with them both replying with a simple " Hey," in return. You started digging into your lunch as Charlie started going on about something his brothers were peer pressuring him into doing.

" They want you to go swimming this late in the season?" You asked with a raised eyebrow.

" Yeah, they want me to become less of a sissy in their words." He said back.

" Don't do it." You replied giving him a dead hard look. "only an idiot or a daredevil would do it this late since the waters are already starting to freeze."

" Oh! speaking of water." destiny said, finally popping into the conversation. " did you hear what happened to the underwater research base in the Pacific ocean?" You both shook your heads for an answer. She continued after taking a quick bite of her sandwich. " My cousin works for the navy, and she was telling me about an underwater base in the Pacific where they recently discovered an animal unlike anything that has ever been seen, but when they went to collect it, the submarine exploded and the base crashed in on itself!... there were no survivors." She finished with a quiet dark tone in her voice. Yours and Charlies eyes were wide with shock

" What happened?" He asked. She shook her head and looked down sadly.

" No one knows." She answered

" It's sad." You said after a minute of silence. " All of those people, just gone." Destiny nodded her head in agreement before she quickly changed the subject to a happier one. That was on your thoughts for the rest of the day, in school, walking home, and even when you were back at your house. What could have caused that? you didn't know, you just hoped those people were having it better in the afterlife.

You shook the sad thought out of your mind and got started on your homework. You worked for a couple of hours, coming out to greet your sibling and parents when they arrived, then heading back to continue your danged math homework. you were only halfway through it.

You stopped when your mom called you down for dinner, happy to be done even for a little bit. You rubbed your head as you exited your room. All of that thinking gave you a nasty headache. You made your way to the kitchen, smelling the delicious aroma of the dinner your mother made. You seated yourself next to your 11-year-old brother as your mother served the plates.

" Thanks, mama." You said to her, leaning over to smell the plates.

" Of course honey." She said back, giving you a real big smile. She turned to the living room where your father sat on the couch watching the television. " Darling, come in and get your supper!" She called out to him. A few seconds later he called out back to her " Darling, come see this."

Your mother gave you and your brother a confused look before setting down her serving utensils and walked in the direction of the front room. You turned and ruffled your little brother's hair before getting up and following your mom. On the television, was the news. the reporter was talking while behind him it showed the picture of a room full of dead people.

" At exactly 4:50 pm this afternoon the county hospital was involved in a chemical explosion that killed 30 people and injured 20 more. Police say that the explosion was no accident, but a planned mass murder. The authorities have been examining the evidence and say they have a lead, but the investigation is ongoing-" The television flicked off and your mother set down the remote. A look of horror in her eyes. A look that was shared by the three of you.

"Let's talk about this later." Your mother whispered to your father and started back for the kitchen. You followed her, looking down at the ground and when seated, looking down at your plate. Your appetite was gone now. What was going on? two major disasters happening within just a few days of each other. And one so close to you and your family. It made you worry for them, for your friends and the people you passed on a daily bases, and yourself. You hoped that this person was caught as soon as possible. And put to justice.
