It was one of those Saturday mornings, I woke up early, to a sky, which was cloudy grey, and I didn't feel like doing a thing.

The routine during the week is, study and work and then repeat.

Sometimes though I walk my dog.

Life is secluded I felt that ever since coming to Australia.

Some of the guys I work with are mates amongst each other, and I know the exclude me from their weekend plans as I don't fit in with them as I know I maybe should.

I'm not a rude employee; I'm just a quiet one. I take in my surrounds more then I probably should and don't always engage well.

As soon as I am around customers I can sell, I feel myself picking up, I know my stuff on the items I sell, which makes customers more convinced to buy. I make the sales every week and sometimes get more sales then I need, I get by.

It is even harder when your family isn't a close, as you'd like them to be.

My family is in the USA, Brooklyn, New York. My Mum, my dad and my little sister are so far away I miss them so much sometimes. My eldest sister is in New Zealand with her family. My younger brother is in Tasmania with his family.

The only real family I have close to where I live is my Aunty, Uncle and my cousin and his wife, but I have to drive a few hours to see them.

So there I was scrolling through the application store looking at the popular social ones, though the apps that are number one feel unsocial mainly. I always believed in face to face contact, but I've grown up in a digital age and sometimes the only faces I see are on my screen in Facebook. They say that your there friends though they have no idea who you are really, so I think they've missed used the whole concept of add friends, friends on that app.

As I scrolling through the app store something caught my eye an app called PenFriend.

I started reading the description of the app.

Become pen acquaintances, type and talk to people with similar interests to you.

Some pen acquaintances turn into pen friends.

So give it ago whom could you write and speak to?

So maybe this is how the world connects now pen friends, I've heard of them before but it was always with letters in those US gardening magazines my Mum use to buy. I suppose for a digital age now even pen friends had become digitalised too.

So I hit download, I'd take a look. It was harmless I figured talking to some people with some interests we both shared might be cool.

My dog Poley jumped up on the bed, she's a boxer and she likes to lick everything. She started to lick my phones screen, yuck.

"Poley go on off the bed." I told her.

She hoped back down on the carpet and looked up at me expecting her walk.

"In a moment we can go to the beach." I told her. She lied down on the carpet her head between her paws and waited patiently.

The app finished downloading.

I started the sign up process.
