The Nerd I Loved (Block B Taeil)

Chapter 20

"My pack of gummy bears, I lost them," I explained.

"Perhaps you lost them under the table?" Chen suggested.

"Why would they be under the table?" I asked, but checking under the table anyways.

When I looked back up, I saw the bag of gummy bears where my other materials were.

"See, they were on the table the whole time," Chen said, pointing to them.

P.O. giggled suspiciously. "Yeah Chaerin, perhaps you need glasses."

"I swear they were not- wait. They're opened .." I grabbed the bag and saw that it was opened.

I looked up at Chen and gave him the 'explain' look. He smiled goofily and chuckled.

"I just ate three. I promise," He said. "And since you had fallen asleep on the bus with the bag in your hand, I was tempted to eat some.."

"Chen you troll!!!!" I yelled as I chased him around.

After a few minutes of chasing after him, I gave up and went back to where my project was. When I came back, a woman was in front of it, examining it and I walked up to her.

"Good afternoon ma'am," I said with a smile.

"May you show me your experiment?" She asked emotionlessly. Well then ..

"Yes, ma'am," I answered cheerfully.

"We will now announce the winners of the science fair of 2014," The head judge of the science fair said. It had been a couple of hours of presenting, then an hour of sitting around with our friends, waiting for the results.

I had met new friends and all, but just like people make friends, there are always haters. Some biscuit named Kermy or Kermit, I didn't even do anything to her.

"Man, I'm nervous," My new friend Namjoon said, rolling back his shoulders.

"You better be, because I did an awesome job at mine," P.O. told him proudly.

"Everyone knows my science project has the most swag," The guy named Suga said. He had refused to tell us his real name.

"Yours has swag, mine has intelligence and awesomeness," Chen told him.

Everyone was sitting on the floor of the school's cafeteria since the tables had all our projects and there were no chairs. I got nervous when the teachers brought up the prizes to the stage. (It's a cafeteria/auditorium). The head judge held two envelopes in his hand, which made me wonder what it had in it. Money? Gift card of lots of money?

"12th place of our science fair is .. Pyo Jihoon!" One of the judges said. All the students clapped as P.O. stood up happily and received his prize: a science lab kit. Although that was pretty lame, the prizes got way better.

The 11th place got an iTunes card of 20$, the prizes kept getting bigger. 10th place got an iTunes card of $50, and 9th place got one of $75.

They kept announcing different names, with me wondering if they'll call my name out. Will they?

8th place passed with the prize of an IPod, 7th was announced and they received a $500 gift card at Wal Mart.

6th place got a $550 gift card for Best Buy, and then 5th place got an iPad. I was surprised how the prizes got better and better.

Namjoon sighed. "Perhaps, we didn't win?"

I sighed. "I guess not."

"I'm getting first place, just watch," Suga said with confidence.

"I wouldn't be so confident if I were you," Chen the troll smirked at him.

"Tch, you haven't even gotten any of the prizes."

"4th place goes to Kim Jongdae! Congratulations, you got an XBox360!" One of the judges announced happily.

Chen stood up happily and came back, smirking at Suga.

"And you were saying ..?" Chen told him. Suga simply rolled his eyes.

"3rd place goes to [insert random name here], come get your MAC laptop!" Another judge exclaimed as we clapped for them.

I lost complete hope, but it had been a fun experience to have come here and met new friends.

"Our second place winner is ... [insert another random name here]! You win a SmartTV, isn't that amazing!" The judge exclaimed and as we clapped.

Then the whole cafeteria fell in silence as the head judge stood there with two envelopes in his hand. He grabbed the microphone and spoke.

"As for our first place, there are actually two winners. They had gotten the exact same ranks, same grades from almost every judge. The first place winner is .. "

Everyone crossed their fingers ..

"The first place winner is .." He repeated.

At the moment of tension, he said,"It was a good science fair by the way. And the first place winners are .."

Moment of tension, yet ruined again.

"Everyone did such a good job, it was hard picking who was the best," He said. Everyone groaned at how the judge was teasing all of us, making us wait forever to know.

"Okay okay, I'll stop. The winners are .."

"Lee Chaerin and Kim Namjoon!"

Holy moly pause the time of the world. Did I just hear my name?

"OMO,we both got first place!!" Namjoon exclaimed next to me. I felt my heart skip and dance about in joy. What? Out of 400 students, I was chosen? Other than Namjoon, of course.

We walked up to the stage as the claps of everyone boomed in my ears as I wish I could've paused the moment and stay in it forever.

The judge shook both our hands happily and handed us both a letter.

"This is the prize .. Would you guys like to know what their prize is?" The judge asked the crowd of hundreds.

"YES!!" All of them hollered cheerfully.

"They won, absolutely everything free, for them to..." He made a dramatic pause.

He turned to us and smiled brightly.

"Congratulations, you were granted the permission to study abroad to the United States!"

Was this happiness, shock, worry, or all of the above?
