Ep 3: Forgiveness is key

Start from the beginning

Oliva gasped silently. "Simon... please don't tell me you think like that. Our parents loved us... and they sacrificed themselves so we could live a happy life."

Simon stared up at his sister. "Our parents forced us...to live without them. You are working a full-time job...and you are attending college. That's a lot on your shoulders and to top that all of you're raising me. I would be better off if you left me in that foster care..."

Oliva shook her head. "Simon, don't you dare talk like that!" She snapped. Tears stung her eyes as she yelled at him. "Our parents loved us so much, and their last moments were to protect us!" She slammed her hand on the countertop to cause Simon to flinch a little. Never seeing his older sister act like this before. "You don't know what I had to do. What I had to endure to make sure that I would be able to get you back. How much I had to go through! To make sure I wouldn't lose you too."

Oliva bit her lip and shook her head. Utter pain covered her features. "I need to head off now." She wiped her tears with the back of her hand. With that, Oliva turned away from Simon and made her way to the door. She stopped with her hand on the door handle, her hand seeming to shake visibly. "Simon...I hope you have a good day at school. I love you, mi hermano . Please don't think wrong of our parents."

With that said, Oliva opened the door to their apartment and walked outside. She pulled the door shut and locked it behind her. Simon stared down at his feet after his older sister left. "She just doesn't understand. How can she not see that our lives are a living nightmare?"

(An hour later)

Simon frowned as he walked down the sidewalk. What had occurred this morning is still fresh in his mind.

"Hey Simon!"

Simon peered over his shoulder. To see Jeremy Heinz hurriedly making his way after him. Simon stopped in his tracks and waited for his friend to make his way over to him. "How are you doing this morning?"

Simon sighed slightly and rubbed his temples. "I'm doing alright, I guess." He grumbled. He knew he didn't sound alright. And he knew Jeremy was going to question him further.

The middle schooler raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure you're alright?" Simon could see in Jeremy's eyes. That his friend did not trust his lie whatsoever.

Simon sighed and placed his hands in his pockets. The boy would rather not talk about what occured this morning. But felt like he would break down sooner or later.

"We, l this morning, my sister and I kind of had a fight." The young boy tighten his grip on his backpack straps. A soft breeze of wind blew through his short hair.

Jeremy tilted his head. "What was the fight over? My siblings and I have fights every once in a while."

Simon frowned and stared down at his feet while he was walking. He was watchingng as his shoelaces tap against his shoes. "Well... we were arguing over our parents. You see... our parents passed away when i was rather young. And when that occurred, i was sent away to an orphanage. My sister wasn't of age to take care of me. But because she didn't have a job, she wasn't suitable to take care of me."

Simon grew quiet as it appeared that his memories were flashing through his head. "It was rather tough on both of us. She was trying so many things to make sure that the two of us would stay together. And...the orphanage wasn't the nicest place for me to stay in."

Jeremy blinked in surprise. He would've never guessed that someone like Simon had been in foster care. Or that he was struggling to find himself. These past few days that he was able to get to know him.

Simon appeared to be someone who was outgoing. He was funny and always tried to act smoothly towards girls. Even though his eyes seem to be on Yolei.

"I'm really sorry to hear that." Jeremy wishpered. The hispanic boy shrugged his shoulders. "It's not your fault. It's just... my sister does so much. You know people her age shouldn't be worrying about their little brothers. Her mind should be focused on school and work."
