Long ago, our ancestors waged a war with the queen of the skies, the mighty Thunder Queen. They believed that she and her people shouldn't be allowed to come to the earth and take what they please, whenever they want. They wanted to divide the world, those who lived on earth, stayed on earth. Those who lived in the sky, stayed in the sky.

After months of bloodshed the King of the Earthen Lands proposed a deal to end the killing. Once a year the children of the sky could come down and do as they pleased until dawn the next day. The Thunder Queen thought about it for weeks, the bloodshed never ceasing, until finally she agreed. Her people would come once a year and do as they wish, and in turn, she would stop waging war on the earthen lands.

The king was foolish to say they could do as they please. The Storm Children were creatures of chaos. Once a year they came from the skies and wrecked havoc. They burned cities, damaged crops, stole anything that stuck their fancy, and took the occasional prisoner. The following weeks the people of the earthen lands dealt with the damage and mourned those they lost that night.

It happened once a year, in the seventh month on the twelfth day. The day the war with the skies was brought to an end so many years ago. Eventually the people of the earth adapted, they built their homes from fireproof materials, and made sure to lock themselves away beneath the earth so that no one would be lost to the sky again. Despite the adaptations and their technological advancements, the earthen people still feared the skies and its people.

Some were foolish, they believed the king was wrong for making such a deal, and that surely if they continued to fight, they'd win in the end. They always were the heroes in their own story. They called themselves the Storm Fighters. They didn't cower beneath the earth during the Storm, instead they gathered their weapons and hunted the Children. By the next morning there would be a mixture of red and golden blood upon the earth, both sides taking some losses. But in the end, the Children and their magic were more powerful.

Despite their constant failure, year after year, these fools persisted to band together each year and fight, believing that one day, they will win. It ran in families, each generation following their ancestor's path. They believed their sacrifices would save us in the end. They were wrong, and the Storm still comes year after year.

Will the bloodshed ever end?
