September 2011--First Day

"Brianne!" a familiar voice shouted.

I turned around to find Laurel standing only a few feet away from me. It was the first day of freshman year, and I was trapped among a sea of people. I aggressively pushed my way through the crowd to join my bestfriend, whom I haven't seen all summer.

"Hey how was your summer? dance with any cute boys?"

"It was fantastic! And yes! Too many to handle haha!" Laurel replied.

Laurel is a ballet dancer, and she ditched me for summer camp in sunny California! And she's drop dead gorgeous. She has long black hair and is 5' 4'', with incredible flexibility, and talent. her hazel eyes always seemed to sparkle, even on the rainy days. And she always seemed to be well dressed. Everyone adored her because she's so sweet, and doesn't have a bitter bone in that slim body of hers.

"How about you? Any cute boys this summer?"

"Nah I'm like a fish, boys don't notice me"

I was only 5' 1'' and had medium length black wavey hair. My eyes are plain, dark brown, and almond shaped. And unlike Laurel, I prefer to wear sweats and sweaters whenever I can, or scarves. but never skirts or anything of the sort.

"Hahaha oh shut up, you're always so melodramatic"

"No I'm hilarious what are you talking about?" I laughed, "So what do you have first period?"

"English 9 applied tech. You?"

"Oh dang I have Math. I'll find you at lunch!" Nearly shouting, as I made my way to the 400 hall.

                                                       *************

When I walked into my first period class, I already saw some other kids I knew. As I looked up at the board there was a seating chart.

"Oh good" I thought to myself. I always fear those awkward moments where the teacher doesn't give a seating chart, and I have to find somehwere to sit, in a room full of people I don't know.

After I took my seat I took out my pencil and notebook. Not that we will learn anything on the first day, I just wanted to be prepared. As I sat alone, other students began filing in, I noticed a tall, maybe 5' 8'', dirty blonde haired guy sit two seats away from me. I couldn't help but stare....his eyes were freaking gorgeous, green with a hint of golden pigmant.

"He's probably new" I thought.

Once everyone was seated, Mr. Anderson began taking role. A few minutes later, I learned that the new kid, Dylan, was from the east coast. After all the names were called, Mr. Anderson passed out the syllabus and went over class rules, and where everything was located. It was pretty boring so when time was up, I nearly jumped out of my seat and sprinted towards the door. I was almost out  when I bumped into the new kid...Dylan.

"Oh sorry...." I said quietly

"No problem after you" Dylan replied.

"Thanks"

As I walked to the 200 hall I couldn't help but think,

"He seemed nice. Maybe I'll get to know him, and we could be friends.....oh shit who am I kidding, a guy like that wouldn't be friends with someone like me, "

I always had the issue with feeling lonely, and I hoped that maybe I would make new friends this year, but maybe not.

 9:45am

When I walked into physics I thought I was late because the room was already full. Just as I sat down at a table towards the back, our teacher Mr. Medina, in a loud voice said

"Sorry everybody stand up, there is a seating chart"

Great I'm in the front, but as I looked at the people sitting next to me I noticed that I had a few friends near me whom I could chat with. When I sat down and looked up at the board I saw Dylan's name right behind me. "Oh another class with him how fun" I thought. I wasn't trying to be mean or scarcastic. And it wasn't like he was a terrible person either, I had just met him this morning. But for some reason my mind decided to register that thought in a scarcastic tone.

After Mr. Medina told us the same old boring classroom prodcedures, he said that we have the last five minutes to chill. I turned to my friend Levi and began chatting with him, asking how his summer was. When it was time to leave I turned towards Dylan and asked,

"What class do you have next?"

"I have a free period, you?"

"Oh same! .... So how do you like it here?"

"It's alright" he replied dully.

He seemed pretty reserved and shy. Here I was trying to be friendly and it seemed like he didn't really want to converse with anyone.

"Well I'll see you later maybe...if we happen to have another class together"

"Yea, maybe but doubt it" he said, and quickly walked away.

I was a bit taken back that he was so closed off, and to me I felt that he was sort of rude. Made me wonder if I had said something to offend him. But whatever, I wasn't about to let that ruin my first day, and annoy me.

11:40am

Lunch time! Yess! I'm so hungry! As I was walking to the lunch room I spotted Laurel.

"Laurel!" I called out

"Hey Bri" she said "How was your first few classes?"

"Oh they were alright. Boring though"

"It always is, because all you get, are syllabus' and papers that teachers want your parents to sign and shit like that"

"Haha yeah!"

"So...." Laurel trailed off.

"What....?" I said looking skeptical.

"Cute boys anyone?"

"Hahaha how did I know you were going to ask that! Uh no. There's this new kid Dylan, but he doesn't talk much, and I tried being friendly, and he just wasn't having it today."

"Oh is he new?"

"Yup" I sighed.

"Well I'm hungry so lets go eat!" Laurel exclaimed as she pulled me through the cafeteria.
