I was watching the pack from afar, as the Omega it was practically required. My eyes strayed to Rydel as I bent down at the creek. Twigs cracked in the bush next to me. My tongue lapped up water, sending it surging down my dry throat.
"Dezra!" Rommick called for me.
I looked longingly back at the creek, but answered my Alpha dutifully. My legs stretched as I walked casually over. Trion, the Alpha's son was sitting beside him as usual.
"Alpha?" I asked.
"It would seem you have been getting into trouble lately, according to Arcodio," Rommick said, "Is this true?"
I looked back at Arcodio, the packs scout. He was smirking. Well as close to smirking as a werewolf in his wolf form could. My eyes trailed back to my sister for help. "Yeah, Dad. It's true."
"Nesta, come take your sister back to the creak, and keep watch."
Yes, my dad was the Alpha, and yes, I was the Omega. My mom had me, Nesta, and Trion. I was the smallest and weakest. But I had been training myself. Sometimes Nesta was there, other times she wasn't, but she was sworn to secrecy.
Nesta obeyed, coming up to walk beside me, "Ready for today's training?" she whispered.
"Always." I responded.

Nesta and I walked further along the creek than normal, even for training.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
Nesta didn't respond. I was about to ask again, when a small clearing came into view. The entire border was made up of the rare Demon Ash trees --- thick grey trunks with red and silver leaves year-round --- and the rare Demon Lavender flowers that seem to pop up wherever the Demon Ash's can be found, hence the name. I Changed, and touched the small blood-red buds of the Demon Lavender. Nesta Changed too, and we laid on the ground and stared at the gigantic trees.
"Why did you bring me here?" I queried.
Nesta shrugged, "I dunno. I guess you seemed like you could use some peace."
I snorted, "Yeah, cause being surrounded my plants named 'demon' is peaceful," I glanced at Nesta, her auburn tresses flared around her head. She looked slightly wounded, "I was kidding, Nesta. Thank you. It's hard being Dad's daughter, and the Omega."
I leaned over and put my pale arms around Nesta's tan shoulders, "You're the best sister I could ever ask for."
She turned toward me, her radiant blue eyes staring into my one-of-a-kind violet pair. "I know," Nesta smiled, then winced, "Your hair is really hard to look at when the sun is out. And when it's snowing. And when it's wet. And when it's ---"
"I get it, Nes. Trust me, I know." I interrupted, taking half of my thick snow-white hair in my hands.
Nesta stood up suddenly, "Ready for training?"
I chuckled, "Let's go."
We Changed, and I bolted between the Demon Ash's. Through a small hole in between some leaves, I could see my sister. She was prowling around, trying to sniff me out. I ran through the clearing, right in front of her. I may have been the Omega, but I was now the fastest and stealthiest in the pack, information only Nesta and I knew. As I passed her, I turned my momentum, jumped, and flipped. I landed in front of Nesta, panting. She started coming at me. I growled, waiting until she was a foot away from me to jump. My front paws hit her back, and dragged her large wolf body down. My back paws touched down on the soft grass, only to rocket me back into the open air. I was about 10 feet up, when I was tackled. My howl ricocheted throughout the clearing, somehow cutting through the trees.
An answering howl came.
I Changed into my human self quickly, "Ow. . ." Then quickly back. I would heal faster that way. I'd just hoped it was fast enough to fool Dad.
*****
A few minutes later, I was being carried back to the Den, in the arms of Ace, the Betas' son. My dad looked on me with shame. And it made sense, it was to be expected. I was the Omega, he was the Alpha; I was hurt training with an important member of the Pack, and to the pack . . . I was nothing.
I hated it when the alpha side of Dad came out, especially at me, but this time it was worse for some reason. It was like I was caught doing something to make the Pack better, only to be reprimanded as if it were a crime. Which in a way, I guess it was? I was just the Omega.
"I'm just the Omega," I murmured into Ace's chest.
"What?" Ace asked, in his deep, smooth voice.
"Nothing." I tried to look up into his eyes, only to be sent into a shock of pain. I cried out.
"Something's wrong with the Omega."
Gosh, how much I hated being the Omega.
Nesta was the first one to my side, tears leaving invisible tracks down her cheeks, "I'm so sorry, Dez. This is all my fault."
I wanted to comfort her and tell her no, it wasn't not her fault, if I wouldn't have pushed her so hard to train me, this wouldn't have happened. But before I could, everything sunk into a black abyss of nothingness, and a gentle voice entered my head.
"Dezra, you must run. Please, Dez, get up and run!"
