The Girl With A Scarf

I sit in front of the mirror that day and dragged my fingers along my skin. The burning, I have gotten used to so I no longer cringe at the touch. But I have not gotten used to the questioning glances from every passer by. They can't see what is wrong but they know something is off, so I wrapped the black scarf around my neck as I do everyday and I sighed as I got up. Another day of work ahead of me, no different than usual.

I shoved my hands into the pockets of my coat as I walked down the steps towards my bike. I rode through the streets as I enjoyed the wind blowing in my face. I remembered my scarf around my neck as it flapped around wildly and I slowed my pace so the wind didn't blow as profusely and I fixed my scarf. I mustn't be so foolish and divulge into my childish behaviors when it comes to the security of my scarf.

I rolled to a stop in front of the cafe and chained my bike to the post. I walked through the door the bell signaling my arrival and I smiled warmly at the customers around the room. Jumping over the counter I ventured to find my apron so I could begin my day of work.

The bell rang and I could here the door close. I set down the damp towel I was using to wipe off the counters and wiped my hands off on my apron to dry them. Moving behind the counter anticipating to take another order. I looked up and smiled brightly as I made eye contact with dazzling crystal blue eyes. They looked like the clearest water of your dreams and damn I wanted to go for a swim looking at those eyes. I couldn't breath for a moment as he walk towards me.

"Hey doll," he said with a genuine smile, "could I have my usual, please?"

"Sh-sure," I stuttered not quite getting my words out because of his nickname for me and still dizzy from his mesmerizing eyes. I fixed myself with a more sure, "of course", and a slight wave of my hand as if my heart didn't just melt. He responded with a quiet chuckle as he headed off to his usual seat.
