Captain Of My Heart

Chapter 1 The Tavern

I'm sitting on the shore, my feet are in the ocean, this is one place I can come to relax and I can be myself
"Katie father needs you back at the tavern" My brother Matthew calls out. "I'm coming!" I take one last look of the ocean and head to the tavern. I walk through the enchanted forest passing nothing but trees, I occasionally see someone but not many people come to this part of the forest. Most people go across the woods to the land of the evil queens kingdom. There are more shops and markets for travelers to get supplies. Fortunately since our tavern is so close to the ocean we get plenty of business from pirates. I have always dreamed of going out on one of the ships and setting sail with a crew. I know this could never happen, I'm a taverns daughter nothing more.

I go inside the tavern "Katie dear I need you to work a shift tonight, I have to go into the kingdom for some supplies. Matthew is going with me or I wouldn't ask."
"No problem father"
"will you be ok for a few hours alone?"
"I'll be fine father I'm not a little girl anymore I can take care of myself I'm 25 you know" my father laughs and kisses my forehead.
"We will be back as soon as we can" as my father leaves I look at the time it's almost our rush hour. I get a few barrels of fresh rum and roll them inside. Before I can set them up there is a group of men coming in demanding rum. I serve the drinks and see there are more of them coming. I go around each table, get the orders and try to keep the crowd at bay. After I get the men the drinks I go to the back of the counter and finally move the barrels.
"Woah there love let me help you with that" I had my back turned so I couldn't see who the man was speaking to me
"I'm good sir but thanks" I push the barrel up on the counter then I see a extra hand beside of me. I look up, this man was very handsome. He had jet black hair, deep blue eyes, he was wearing all leather his shirt showed a little of his chest and I couldn't help but blush.

"Thank you sir"
"no problem love although your pretty strong I must say"
"thanks"
"Killian Jones but most people know me as Captain Hook" I shake his right hand, noticing his left is a hook.
"I'm Katie" he smiles
"Well love if you don't mind I'd like to buy a round for my men please"
"no problem I'll get those drinks out soon"
"thanks love" I get all the rum in cups and distribute them.   I give one of the crew members a drink he starts to talk to me
"young lady how about you have a seat beside me and enjoy a drink"
"no but thank you for offering" as I start to walk away this man gets up, he grabs my hand
"oh come on one drink"
"I said no thank you sir" he tries to pull me into him I put my serving tray down on the table and reach my knife in my back pocket.
"Now unless you want to loose that hand I suggest you let go of me" he was a little stunned but he still didn't let go.
"Aye lad let katie go" Killian stood behind the man
"oh Captain It's just a misunderstanding"
"aye well I don't think a woman would pull a knife on you unless you were doing something you had no business doing. Now you apologize to her" he takes his hook up to his neck "or do I need to give you a nice scar to go with your others"
"I'm sorry young lady"
"good now when we go back to the ship you will be washing the decks for a week until you can remember how to treat a lady" Killian let go of the man and he runs.

"I'm sorry love my crew is not the kindest of men sometimes. They tend to forget their manners towards a lovely young lady"
"it's ok but thank you for your help again. I could have handled him though"
"I could see that. Tell you what how about you have a drink with me"
"I can't I have to wait for my father to return"
"I can wait love what do ya say?" I think about it for a moment "sure" he winks and walks away. I turn around and begin to blush. Did the most handsome man I have ever seen just ask me to have a drink with him? I started working, I noticed Killian looks at me occasionally. Im not used to the attention, so I try not to look at him. A couple hours go by my father finally gets back.
"Katie thank you for working"
"no problem I gotta go now dad" "woah wait where you off to"
"oh I'm just having a drink with someone"
"ok well just don't be home to late"

I walk outside the tavern and Killian is waiting for me.
"I thought we would have a drink on my ship, follow me love" we walk towards the docks I see the ship. "Wow what a beautiful ship" "welcome to the Jolly Roger" we walk on board and I look around, as I am doing this killian watches me.
"So love did you grow up here in the enchanted forest"
"my whole life"
"well if it's not to much to ask I need your help with something" I thought to myself should have known the pirate wanted something, this was not a date. What was I thinking a man like killian would never look at a woman like me.
"What do you want?"
"I need you to help me find someone."
"Why would I do that?"
"Because I can see in your eyes you want to leave this place. If you help me I will give you a job aboard the Jolly Roger."
"What kind of job exactly, the maid?" "Of course not love, my first mate"

"Wait what? You just met me Killian why on earth would you make me your first mate?"
"From the moment I saw you I could tell you would be someone I can trust." he walks closer to me, inches away from my face "your eyes long for the ocean I can see it.  You seek adventure, I can give that to you." Him being so close to me I start to get nervous, I've never had a man stand inches away from my face. I look away and turn around.
"Let me guess if I don't help you you'll kill me?" He turns me around looks deep into my eyes places his right hand on my face
"even if I wanted to kill you I couldn't."
"What do you mean by that?"
"Your a strong woman, with ocean eyes and I'm guessing a good heart someone like you shouldn't be killed" "I guess I'll take that as a complement"
"so love what do you say are you in?" "Just one more question"
"aye"
