You wait.
What was that about not being desperate?
Well, do you have any other good ideas, Einstein? Why don't we do your homework?
Okay, mom. It's not like I'm bad at homework, or that I dislike my classes. I'm still a bit of a nerd, I somewhat enjoy school. More so now that I'm not being harassed every day. Being cool was, well, cool.
Stop talking to yourself. Grab your bag, do your homework. I'm here if you need my assistance.
I didn't need any help. Like I said, I'm not bad at homework. As soon as I finished my last problem, my phone went off. I got a message from Jake.

Jakey-D: Yo!
ShortPancakeStack: Yo
Jakey-D: You free?
ShortPancakeStack: I mean, sure? Not really doing
anything
Jakey-D: You wanna come over, play video
games or something?
Jakey-D: I'm bored as hell.
ShortPancakeStack: Sure thing, but I'll need a ride?
Jakey-D: I can be over in a few
Jakey-D: What's with your name, btw?
ShortPancakeStack: It's because I'm short as fuck
but I'm also hella hot.
Jakey-D: Fair enough. Send me your
address?
ShortPancakeStack: Sure thing!
ShortPancakeStack: (Insert address because
author isn't creative)
Jakey-D: Sweet. I'll be there in, like, five.

Well, that was easy enough.
ShortPancakeStack? Really? I mean, your reasoning was good. I suppose the username isn't that bad, girls may like it.
I guess. It was really a joke username, originally. Now, should I wait outside? I don't really like being in this house any longer than I have to be.
I guess it couldn't do much harm. You'll just have to think of some excuse.
Like say that my dad is drunk, that I don't really want to deal with him? I mean, it isn't too far from the truth.
Pity points? I like it. Sure, go on with that. Now, go on. He'll be here soon.
I smiled, nodding to myself as I made my way out of the house. I didn't tell my dad that I was leaving or anything, he wouldn't care. He probably wouldn't care if I died...
Enough with that! No depressing thoughts! Your ride is here!
I looked up and, sure enough, there was Jake. He smiled, waving at me. I smiled, walking over and getting into his car. "Yo," I greeted him simply.
"Hey! Why were you waiting outside?" He looks over at me, smiling. After a moment, he starts driving.
"Dad's drunk again."
"Yeah, my dad's drunk again," I sigh, looking out the window. It wasn't a lie. I mean, dad was most likely drunk. I never liked it when he was drunk, which was almost all of the time.
"Oh... Sad to hear," He hummed in thought, more focused on driving. "Parent's suck ass, huh? Mine are, like, never home. Always busy with dumb work."
"Oh? What do they do?" I was actually curious.
"Funny story. I'm not sure," He kind of shrugs. "They never told me. They've always kind of ignored me," He had a small smile. "You know, it's nice being able to have someone to talk to."
"What? But aren't you, like, the most popular kid in school?" Shouldn't he have a bunch of people to talk to? He has an amazing-ish girlfriend. I mean, sure, she isn't my type, but him and her have a good control over our class, if not the school. "Shouldn't you have a lot of people to talk to?"
"Well, yeah, you'd think that," He explained. "But, really, I'm really lonely. Sure, Chloe and I seem like we have a good relationship, but you could never be more wrong. We probably aren't going to be together much longer."
I couldn't help but feel bad for him. That was really sad. Is that what it's really like being popular?
No, Jake just doesn't know how to survive without parents to back him up, while you've done it for a long while now. That's why you need to become his best friend. You need to be there for him!
Yeah... Yeah, you're right!
"You know," Jake spoke again after a few minutes of silence. "You really aren't a bad guy. I'm glad you decided to come to Middle Borough. I really mean that!"
"Thanks, man," Was all I could manage. I smiled.
The car came to a stop. We got up, and I looked up to see a rather large (and nice) house. To be honest, I was jealous, and somewhat embarrassed from my little house. The little house that could barely fit me, my dad, and my brother in it.
We went to his room and played video games. Whatever games he had on his Xbox and Mario Kart, mostly (not to brag, but I'm, like, the best at Mario Kart). After a few hours of playing, we had deciding it was getting late, that I should go home. He drove me, though the car ride was awkward and silent.
We got back to my small house and I said my goodbyes, sneaking back into my room, not wanting to alert my possibly sleeping housemates. Mission success.
You did fine tonight without me, surprisingly. At least I know you can do something without me. Oh, it seems he sent you a text. You've got this, I guess. I'll leave you to it.

Jakey-D: Yo, just back home. Thanks for
hanging with me, man!
ShortPancakeStack: No problem, my dude
