Austin is a magic elf born in a magical forest and was raised in a village that is in the kingdom of Afgien. Ellie is also a magic elf, so he sees her as a sister. He was raised by his mother until a tragic accident accrued when he was 9, leaving him to be raised by the people of the village. Austin eventually taught himself magic and he was given his staff, which is made of a branch from the mystical forest he was born in and a green crystal that was discovered by his great grandfather.
Austin was the first person to find Katie when she first arrived to Afgien, and over the time of being best friends, Austin realized he had developed feelings for Katie

Her rough persona comes from her brutal past of being abused by her stepmother, and mostly living alone. She feels like she can relate to Katie as seeing the world in black and grey.
