That night she stayed up, contemplating her situation. She felt more alive than she ever had before, and although her life (From what she could glen from her hazy 'memories') had been beyond awful, Rebecca actually felt motivated for the first time in a while. Nowhere near happy, but motivated to make it better, yes. She leaned against the floor by the end of the bed looking into the hallway. It was dark and the light from some sort of lamps lit the spaces very poorly. Only piercing a few feet into the inky blackness. She missed her parents and her older brother. Her heart ached for them and all she wanted to do was wish on the bracelet to go home. But then she looked over at the only two friends Rey had... She had. And she knew she couldn't leave them. It wasn't in either of her personalities. Rey's or Rebecca's. The two slept peacefully in the bed, two blankets draped over them. Movement caught her eye and she glanced at the boys resting on the floor. Hunter was awake and watching her. She stared at him silently, at a loss of what to say, eventually deciding that a "You're awake." was enough. He was sitting up with one hand on the floor next to his thy, the other arm draped over his elevated knee. "So are you." He replied. They reached a silent agreement and he stood, making his way carefully over to her and coming to rest by her. They sat in quiet comradery and she sensed he was a lot like her. Not in the sense that he'd been sent from another world, but in the fact that he'd probably been razed in the bond business from when he was a little kid. He had the feel of one that knew what awful things waited for them when they grew up. What to do, she continued contemplating. Then it struck her as she was looking down the hall. Her eye caught the scuff in the wall once again and she glanced down at her bracelet.
..............."ESCAPE"..................
That's what it had to do with. And she began making a plan. They 'Rey' in her filled her with courage and a sense of leadership. She smiled and said very quietly, all the weight of sincerity in her voice, "The girls and I are going to get out of this place and soon." She could feel him looking at her and she turned to meet his gaze. "You, Alf, and Zip should come." His brown eyes peered out at her from a hopeless face and she glanced away, looking down the hallway again. "I understand if you don't want to risk it, but if that's the case, please," her eyes shifted down to her lap and her hand grabbed a fist full of fabric, "please don't get in our way." There was a long silence and they both returned to peering down the hallway. Then at last he whispered, I'm not sure if we'll go with you, but..." and here he passed, "I won't ruin your chance at freedom." She turned to him and smiled gratefully, finally being able to relax her fists, "Thank you." He moved back to his place and before he fell asleep, she told him, "It'll be soon, you know. Very soon."
She'd said that, but she didn't really know when or how to escape. She felt that 'Rey' knew, but that didn't help her as much as she'd hoped, and she had no real plan. One day however, everything just clicked into place and she snapped. It was on the night of the second week. She was walking from the dining aria back to her room with the small group she had over time won. Zip was talking with Lilith and Alf about how when he got older he'd own his own Tronelett ranch. (One of the many strange animals that lived natively and wild on this world.) From what she understood, it was a big Ostrich like animal with flamboyant red and violet fathers, long strong legs and an apatite for racing. Abby was enjoying listening to them and although Hunter was walking a little in front of them, he was smiling at the grand plan his friend had. Rebecca was leading the group back to their room for the night when a commotion broke out behind them. One of the kids had somehow angered a supervisor and was now the target of a beating. She motioned for her group to continue on their way, without her as she hung back to observe. As Hunter passed she grabbed his arm, giving it a little squeeze. Their eyes met and a silent message went between them. It was time to leave. She grinned and let him go, moving swiftly over to the slowly growing group of spectators.
She threw herself at the man, sending him backwards into their group's room and both of them to the ground. There was a scream and she punched the man twice in the face, once to knock him out and the second to keep him that way. Then, as fast as a bullet she leaped to the doorway. It had all happened so fast, she could hardly remember what had transpired. She'd been standing in the group of kids, watching the little girl being beaten and then she hadn't anymore. She'd jumped into the fray and caught the mans leg mid swing without even choosing to move. She'd then pushed it up over her head with one hand. With a foot she'd swept his leg out from under him and he had fallen hard to the ground. It was like a spell had been broken then. The rest of the kids had jumped into action, hitting and kicking, scratching and biting. Together they'd made the perfect distraction. But soon after, the shock wore off and reinforcements came running. The group had scattered, running for their rooms and some to the doors. And, of course, the men had followed. She turned to everyone in the room, solely 'Rey' for the time being. "Everyone up!" She ordered, turning from the room. She moved swiftly to the pealing section in the wall and pressed her fingers onto the exposed wood, there was a soft click as something fell into place and the panel slid in and away. There, behind it was a hole going straight down into darkness. She turned around. "Who's going first?" Almost all of their faces were bleached white, and only Zip stepped forward right away. Before he could dive down the hole, she stopped him. "Once at the end of the tunnel, everyone else down. Got it?" He held her gaze for a second longer and nodded. "Good." She said, "Now go." She stood as another man came down the hall. Before anyone could react, she grabbed one of the three knives from the mans belt on the floor and threw it at him. It flew splendidly true and hit him with a wet thud between the eyes, piercing his skull and killing him instantly. "GO!" She repeated again and Zip disappeared down the hole. "Give him 5 seconds then the next one goes." Rey instructed, sweeping up the other two daggers on the unconscious man's belt. She handed one to Hunter. "Carry it down with you." She then ran to the dead man and swiped up his weapons. There was a sickening sucking sound as she dislodged the dagger from the man's face and she inwardly gagged. But this was no time to be squeamish it was only her and hunter that had to go and she rushed back to the hole. His hand rested on her shoulder, then he slid after Alf. Only then did two men come around the corner. But she was already in the hole. She'd placed a hand and a leg to either side of the pit, holding herself up as she quietly slid the opening shut behind her. There were shouts and the running of feet and blackness complete blackness. She let herself fall, deeper into it. Down. Down. Down.
She plummeted into nothingness and every place where her bracelet touched burned. Suddenly out of nowhere a white light engulfed her and she closed her eyes agenced it's brilliance. Then she was no longer falling she opened her eyes to find herself sitting in the middle of a circle of water, smooth pebbles beneath her and a ring of stone pillars arranged in a semi-circle. A round the odd pool. There was a hand on her shoulder and she looked up to see her little group of followers smiling down at her. She glanced at her bracelet and was surprised to see that a strand of hair had turned white, and that the metal plate now said something new.
.............."RUN".................
She smiled and a laugh broke out of her throat. Tears spilled from her eyes and she wiped them away with one hand. And when her laughter quieted down she stared at the sky for a few moments more, then that's exactly what they did. They ran.
