A Walk Through the Woods

I look out my window to see a bustle of stars in the pitch-black sky. I wanted to take some pictures so I took a walk around the forest. As soon as I walk outside, the chilly wind strokes my cheek, causing me to shiver. "Whatever..." I thought "I'm only going to be out for a few minutes..." and continued walking.

I look at the forest with butterflies in my stomach. I walk through the forest to get a few forest shots and felt like someone was nearby. But, I kept on walking. After about 5 minutes of walking, I found the bike trail. I decided to walk onto the trail and took a few pictures as I walked. Suddenly, I hear a rustle. Like someone was hiding in a bush, waiting for me. I stopped walking for a bit to look around. I see nothing and kept on walking. As soon as you know it, the rustling gets louder and closer.

I start to panic. So I start to run. I'm scared, I'm scared. What's going on? I continue running until I see a small house. I wouldn't hesitate but go there to find supplies and most possibly, shelter. I ran to the door knocking at least 20 times before the door opens. "Ah! Skylar! Come inside!" A strange man wearing a dark green hoodie said. He pulled up his hood and gestured me to come inside. I thought that was weird knowing that this random man knows my name. However, I need somewhere to sleep and need some food pronto. I pass by the man as I go through the door. But as soon as I take one step inside the house, the power turns off.

"Oops! Sorry about the-" And he got cut off by the noise of someone being strangled. "H-help me! I'm being kidnapped!" The lady yelled. Her voice sounded familiar but, I wasn't able to remember who or what. Then, it just hit me. That sounded like my mom...who left me alone with my little sis, Melody. Tears fell from my face and I had no idea, really. I ran to my mom to tell her to explain everything but, I never made it because "The mystery man" that talked to me earlier grabbed my hand. "Sky, you shouldn't go...it's not safe..." He said. But I refused. It was my own mother! I can't let her get kidnapped! So I had to go, right? But that wasn't the case. I looked closer and found out that she was holding a knife with something that looks like blood on it. Her eyes were turning greyer and greyer by the second. "See, I told you..." He pulled off his hoodie to reveal-

"Ah!" I yell as I breath heavily. "Wait...What?..." I say as I touch my face. Was it a dream? I look around the place to find myself outside. I thought I was on my bed? Strange... I gotta find out where I am so I can get back home. But...this might be a good opportunity to find mom! So I start walking around and see a similar path. It could be the same one from my dream! So, I walk down the path. But, something feels wrong...Like some kind of dark energy surrounding me. I stare at the sky and it becomes darker. Shoot... I might catch a cold if I stay out here too long. The wind strokes my cheek once again as the night approaches. I mean, that dream can't be real, ...right?

Then, the rustling begins. Me being me, I freaked out. For a second, I thought...I had deja vu. But, that's some fake stuff those mystic people say. You know what, I'm just going to keep walking and see what's on the other side! If there's a house, I can just camp there! Ok! Let's go!

I continue walking and I see Metropolis about maybe, 2 miles away so I start to run with glee.

I grew up in Metropolis when I was very little until my parents divorced. Since then, I lived with my dad and step-mother ever since I was 5. I always liked to explore because I really wanted to see my mom. Eventually, my parents didn't really care and let me go on my own. Once, I almost got kidnapped and they didn't give one word of relief that I was back home safe and sound. A couple of years ago, they had another kid, who is my step-sister, and spoiled her. Her light purple hair and a pretty pink dress that probably costs more than $25,000 is only a few things she has. Since she started to walk and talk, she blames things on me so "I" can get in trouble and so "I" get abused. They don't care. Nobody does...

I'm just on my own, minding my own business until this piece of shit came walking around in my life! I stayed in a prison cell for 2 weeks just because they blamed me for having a weapon. I could just hear how happy they were that I was gone...Those damned people! They don't care about their own daughter! What kind of "Happily ever after" is that!?! So I wanted to just leave them...make them suffer. I don't care whatever they are doing because they aren't my family, not my "Real" family at least.

I walk into town hoping I won't get recognized by someone. Just in case, I put my jacket on and put my hoodie. I was known as the "Weapon Girl" so if I got caught being here, I might be killed. I pass by this strange lady who looks awfully familiar but, it didn't ring a bell. She stopped to look at me and quickly ran up to me. She pulled my hoodie off and looked at me with shock.

"Skylar?" She said. "I-is that you?" She asked as I tried to make up an excuse to flee but, then it hit me...She was my mother. "M-mom? Is th-that y-you?" I cried. "Yes...it is!" She cried as I hugged her so hard. "I missed you *Sniff* so much!" She said as she started to comb my hair. "Now tell me... how is school?" She smiles. I try to smile but instead I cry. "Terrible...for 11 years straight...I was freaking blamed for everything, abused, bullied, and hated...I hate everything! I just-" Mom hugged me very tightly and said "-I understand honey...Your father wasn't the best person...that's why I left. I wanted to be free, with you! But, your father wouldn't let me take you...I'm sorry" And started to cry. "Its ok mom...at least I found you in Metropolis!" I smile "C' mon, lemme take you home..." And we walked to the grand sea. "Here we are! Oh! Let me give you something!" She said as she ran upstairs. I look around seeing all of the beachy-looking furniture and rugs. I saw that she had a Tv! I have never actually watched Tv before so I sat on the couch and stared at it. Well, it wasn't what I expected...but that was ok! I saw this "Box" thing so I grabbed it and pressed this green button. Then the screen turned on and these people were playing some rock-n-roll song. The band was called Bink Royed and they were playing "The Wall" I found a Minfendo DS on the kitchen counter and me being me, wanted to play some games.

But as soon as I sat on one of those really tall chairs, a little girl came to me and pulled my shirt. "Hey, Miss?" She said, "Can you not touch my Minfendo DS please?" I took a good look at her and realized that she was Melody, my sister. Mom was talking about her on the way to the house. She turned 8 a few months ago and that she was very athletic and aggressive. "Oh! Melody! How are you?" I asked. But she just glared at me, like she was staring into my soul. "Um...How do you know who I am?" She asked me quietly. "Well...when I was little, mom left me with dad. And you came along a bit later!" I say. She stares at me blankly for a second and starts to cry. "W-why did you leave me?" She cried as she dug her face into my chest. "I didn't mean to...I left with dad..." I sighed as I picked Melody up. "But you know, I'm here now! Right?" I ask and twirl her around, placing her in front of me. "M-hm!" She agreed and ran back up to her room. As soon as I heard a bed creak upstairs, I felt some wind brush up against my cheek. That. Just gave me so many chills and a bad feeling. Like something bad is going to happen...

And Then, there is a knock against the door. I can hear my mom in sheer panic..."Sky! Take your sister! And run for your life! RUN AWAY FROM HERE!! QUICK!" Mom yells as she barricades the doors. I quickly run towards my mom and she tosses 2 backpacks and yells "Take the backpacks and phones! They will help you! And remember Lotus!" She cried and covers the windows. I ran upstairs to get Mel but she didn't listen. She kept on arguing with me which is really starting to piss me off. "C'mon! We have to go!" I yell. "Fine! Where are we going?" She asked. But I was already in tears. I was so scared to just even hear footsteps downstairs. Luckily, I took the backpacks and got some rope on my way upstairs. "Go to the window! NOW!" I scream.

We quickly ran down to the window and took out a rope from the backpacks. I grab her lamp to break the window. "AH! Be CAREFUL!" Mel yelled. I put my finger to my lips to signal to be quiet. She quickly shut her mouth and helped tie the rope to the window. "METROPOLIS POLICE! COME SHOW YOURSELF OR WE'LL SHOOT!" They yell. Mel looks outside and jumps down. After I fall down, I pull the rope so there will be no evidence left. I look through the window to find mom dead. My heart just sank...All that time I lost with her...gone. I punch the wall and get a punch back. It was Mel...crying. "I know it's tough...but we need to get out of here...C'mon Sky!" She points to the abandoned train station and we run there. Now, there is no turning back.
