Note On The Nightstand

I laid down in my bed, tired from having a rough day, I reached over to turn off my lamp, I noticed something that wasn't there the night before, it was a note on the nightstand. I grabbed the note off of the nightstand, it read ‘Look down below, from where this note came to go.’

this wasn't the first time I got a strange note, but I wondered how  they got in my house, I thought my parents must've left the note, it was close to my birthday, I rolled over and was about to look under my bed.

I stopped, because I remembered my parents haven't been home in over a year, I realized it wasn't their handwriting either, I decided to look anyway.

When I looked under my bed, I saw a sharp, yellow, broken, crooked smile that was stained black in some places, and that smile had a pair of bright red eyes with brighter yellow pupils, I didn't scream instead I said something “Hey, you've got something in your teeth… Need a toothpick?”

The yellow broken smile turned into an annoyed frown, and surprisingly replied with “Unfortunately, yes, I do. It's been bugging all day!!”

For some reason I always had some toothpicks nearby, i shook one out of the container and handed it to the creepy face, a slim, boney, dark grayish blue hand, came out of the shadows and grabbed it.

The thing picked its teeth and sighed with relief, I put my head back down to look at the face and asked “You get it out?”

It replied “Yes, but… I guess it's time for you to go…”

I started to giggle, “Go where? With who?”

“With me of course, to the Underbed.”

I laughed again “that sounds stupid and non scary, try a bit harder.”

The face looked confused and it blinked a few times“but, that is the name..?”

Annoyed again, I sighed and looked at the creepy face “so, who's the blame? The head monster? The boss?”

“actually yes, now, can you come with me? Please.”

“will I get to file a complaint about the name, meet the head monster and say hi?”

The face came out from under the bed, it was an incredibly slim man, stick like even, almost all bones, his skin way grayish blue with what looked like dirt, dried blood, ash and flaking skin, he was wearing a black tattered jacket, with black tattered pants, no socks or shoes, he wore a black bowler hat with a once white stripe around it, it was tattered with holes and patches as well

“of course, just please hurry up, it's almost day.”

“ok, here I come, also you're not as scary now that I know what you look like” The skeletal figured watched me as I grabbed a large bag and slung it over my shoulder, I walked back over to it

“What's that? You aren't allowed to bring any weapons, just so you know I'll have to check your bag.” it reached for my bag and I frowned

“Oh, it's just the necessities, no need to check it.” I hated anyone touching my bag so this complete stranger, who's a monster is definitely crossing the line

“I still need to check your bag, its basic protocol.”

I growled at this through my teeth, I quickly took my black switch blade out and pointed it at his neck

“You don't, you really don't need to or want to.”

The monster put up his boney hands as if to say ‘ok ok, I won’t touch your bag.’ he was too shocked to speak, a human, let alone a youngling has never even dared to threaten him.

I let out an annoyed sigh “can we go already before the gate closes?” the monster bent down to crawl under the bed.

“Or would you rather stay here and burn in the sunlight?” I grinned at him an slipped under the bed not knowing what it lead to, not knowing how far I’d fall.

I braced myself for a huge fall, squeezing my eyes shut so I wouldn’t panic, but I did.

I felt the impact and my eyes shot open, I wheezed, all the air had been knocked out of me.

I look over trying to regain my breath, I coughed as I saw the blood Hope that's not mine... I thought as my eyes fluttered shut, everything went dark, then red filled to the brim with them, Monsters.
