marina sainz has had the best high school experience possible. having graduated with incredible grades, having been nominated prom queen, having made the most legendary valedictorian speech in the history of laguna bay high school, marina is loving life. not to mention, she has the best boyfriend she could imagine. carter hayes. the school's golden boy. the best high school quarterback in new york. carter is nothing but caring towards marina; he's always made her feel special. she's even thinking about marriage.
so when they jet off to different colleges, marina & carter are certain they can make it work. and for a while, it does. but eventually, marina knows she can't give carter what he deserves - he's too good for her. with the mutual decision to still be friends, carter & marina drift apart in their first year of college.
it is now the second year of college. marina is slowly coming to terms with college life, and meets a handsome boy called alistair. alistair - the complete opposite of carter. dark hair, dark, brooding eyes and a tendency to break girls' hearts.
alistair has formed a liking towards marina, and is planning to veer his way into her heart. marina is weary of alistair, and has heard all the warnings about him before. but the curiosity in her can't help but want to know what he wants from her, and why he has a sudden interest in her.
