Alfred and I had gone home to England after two days to handle my affairs. Alfred came into my study one day with a tray full of scones and tea. he set it down in front of me. "Thank you, love. Take a seat," I said smiling at me. I took a cup of tea and added a spoonful of sugar and stirred it. I took a bite of a scone.
Sipping my tea, I looked at Alfred. "I need to talk to you about something," he said nervously. I nodded my head and waited for him to continue. "I wanted to talk about our family," he said pausing. He sighed and continued, "Arthur, I want to adopt."
I looked at him in shock as I put my tea down. I had wanted a child as well, but he had never shown interest or breached the topic before. "Well, that's something we agree on. I've wanted to adopt a child for some time now," I said looking up at him and leaning on by elbows.
"Really? That's great. Let's go to the adoption agency and get little Bruce!" he exclaimed as he stood up.
"Bruce?" I asked as I stood as well.
"Yeah, like Bruce Wayne."
"Well, I wanted a girl." I said staring at him. We obviously didn't agree on everything.
"Dude, could you imagine raising a girl? We don't know anything about girls. You raised me, so you should be good at it," Alfred said looking at me with a "Well, duh," face. He had a point.
"Okay, a boy it is, but we are NOT naming him Bruce. Pick something more original and not superhero themed," I said walking out of the door. He groaned and followed me out. We went to the car and drove to the nearest adoption agency. There was no one waiting at the desk, so Alfred rang the bell. Moments later, a woman walked out from the back room.
"How may I help you two today?" she asked as she eyed us in a curious way.
"We would like to adopt a little boy. I would have to say anywhere from a few months to around two- years- old," I said. She looked through her files.
"Well, I have three boys here that fit your criteria. One of them is a bit 'different' from the others. He's turning one in three months," she said leading us to another room. There were multiple cribs lining the walls. "These two babies are twins. The other little boy is over there," she said pointing to the other side of the room. She leaned against the wall and allowed us to look around. I looked at the two sleeping babies, one of them sucking their thumb. They both had light freckles and brown, curly hair. It wasn't obvious, but there was enough hair to tell. None of them clicked for me.
"Alfred, what do you think?" I asked. His opinion mattered as well.
"I don't think these are the kids we're looking for," he said as he started to walk over to the other wall. I foloowed him. The instant I layed eyes on the young boy in the crib, I knew he was the one I wanted. I look over at Alfred to see the wonder in his eyes. The boy had blonde hair and emerald eyes like mine. He stared at me in wonder. He looked like he was trying to solve the mysteries of the universe. "Arthur, this boy is the one I want to take home," Alfred said looking at me.
"I completely agree," I said turning to the woman. She walked over to us. "We want this one," I said. She looked shocked, but picked up the boy and led us back to the foyer. She set him down in the playpen next to her desk.
"Just fill this out, present ID, and pay a small adoption fee," she said handing us the papers she grabbed from her desk. I nodded my thanks and walked over to the chairs. I looked at the papers. I filed out the first two pages before it asked for pictures of the adopters. I looked through my wallet and took two wallet- sized pictures out: one of me, and one of Alfred. The current occupation question was hard. I put political and my bosses name, as well as political and the name of Alfred's boss. For other contact members, I put Matthew and Vera. When I had finished that, I went to the information form for our child. I handed the other form over to Alfred so he could sign it. When he had finished, we had a long discussion over the information for our son. We finally agreed.
Child's Name: Lionel Samuel Kirkland- Jones
Parents: Arthur Kirkland and Alfred F. Jones
Adoption Date: November 8, 2013
I handed Alfred the form to sign before I took it up to the woman. I handed her the forms, where she read through all of the information, signed it, and did other legal stuff. "Congratulations. You may take him home. Here is his legal information," she said hanind me the paper. It said that he was born on February 14, 2013. "Wow, he was born on Valentine's Day," I thought. Alfred picked Lionel up and carried him back to the car. We drove home and immediately started calling people. I called Viola and Italy while Alfred called Vera and Matthew. They had to come see the baby.
Well, if you haven't noticed, I'm back. I'm badly cut up and have really bad PTSD and nightmares, but I'm back! There is a link to the adoption papers in the comments.
