Sick

She stared at her desktop blankly. She'd been chatting with her online friends for a while now, and had been starting to feel tired. Which was reasonable, it was almost midnight. One side of her desk had a pile of candy wrappers, she'd been eating candy all day. She had a giant lolipop in her mouth, sadly, that wasn't quite enough sugar to keep her up for much longer.

blueberry_waffles: I think im gonna go get some energy drinks.

blueberry_waffles: I do, im just so tired and dont wanna sleep.

blueberry_waffles: sure

She got up and went to go to the gas station.
"Hey mom can you drive me to the gas station?"
"Sure, what do you need?"
"Energy drinks."
"You won't be able to go to sleep, you know."
"That's the point."
"Get in the car then."
At the parking lot, Blue went to open the door- but her mom locked it.
"Eh? What?"
"Berry, I need to talk to you about something."
"Uh.. yea?"
"You know how I've had a 'fever' right?"
"What happened? You still sick?"
"I am very sick, Blueberry. I'm going to the hospital."
Blue froze.
"Sorry, what? I thought you said-"
"I did. Go get your drink."
Without saying a word, she got up. She went inside to get her drink.
This has to be a joke.
She thought.
If it isn't, I'm going to flip my shit.
She got back in the car, still with a dead silence. On the ride back, that dead silence stayed. Until Blueberry finally got the courage to say,
"For.. how long? How long are you gonna be in the hospital?"
"I might be too sick to ever leave."
"Mom.. this is a joke, isn't it."
Her mom turned around with the most serious, yet sad expression Blue had ever seen.
"Oh shit."
