As I stepped my feet on the grounds of the Shelter for Children and Elderly at Bakoteh—on a shocking mood, I heartrendingly questioned the existence of human heart in some Homo sapiens. To me, this beautiful organ is designed in such a way that it can overrule any intended violent act against humanity.
However, this impression was tattered and battered when I saw cute innocent kids perambulating in the camp with no idea of what is going on. Until I toured certain units there and I was told that those kids are abandoned, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Ironically—to the kids, all is well; but the saddest moment that I can’t ever witness is when they grow up and pathetically realize that they were abandoned by their parents and adopted in an orphanage. You can imagine the mournfulness associated to this awful situation; the social implication cannot be overemphasized.
Notably, this attitude of baby-dumping is prevalent among youngsters. Out of recklessness, they render innocent kids parentless. Paradoxically, they associate a stigma to early marriage, yet are actively involved in things that married couples do, which often result to baby-dumping.
Words can’t describe this inhumanity
It is not an act of reputability
Thus, we must end this brutality
For we were protected from vulnerability
We must be conscious of accountability
And reciprocate humanity
