DISCLAIMER: I use Photoshop to make my gifs, but I'm sure you can use a free app so long as it has a timeline feature and the ability to open gifs and adjust layers, as well as PSDs if you are interested in taking this a step further, but PSDs are optional.

A SUGGESTION: Don't carbon copy me. You have an opportunity to make your own gifs, to make something for yourself, and while this isn't by any means a particularly original idea, this is something that I do, so I would greatly appreciate it that you don't flat out copy me, because I don't think that's in any way respectful nor helpful for anyone, let alone you.

Anyways, for those who aren't quite aware of what I'm referring to, in the epigraphs of my stories, I make gif series which were inspired by gif trilogies made by voideverything who, if this is the same person, now goes by flirtingbucky. They're nothing too special, I don't necessarily make my own gifs unless there really are no resources already available, but I am proud of them and since people have been asking, here's what I use.

First, I go onto Google and find the gifs I want. If I can't find gifs, I take a YouTube video and go onto Giphy.com and make my own from it, but I try to avoid this as much as possible as it's not necessarily as high quality as ones that others make.

They typically aren't all the same size gifs, so I use ezgif.com to resize and/or crop the gifs to the same size. I make them all the same size as the smallest gif so that it doesn't wind up becoming grainy, which happens when you upscale a gif.

Then I open the gifs in photoshop, where I follow this tutorial ( which is also in the external link ): http://avahelps.tumblr.com/post/42057937676/a-tutorial-how-to-make-crackship-gifs-so-an

Then I add a PSD over the layers, scale down the opacity to 50%—but that's just because of how strong the PSD I use is—then I add on the text above the PSD and gif layers so the white isn't adjusted by the PSD coloring.

Make sure it's under 3MB, upload it into your chapter, and you're good!

That's about it! I hope I answered your questions, but if you have any more, such as what resources and fonts I use, just let me know and I'll answer them down below, where you can also search to see if your own question has already been answered!
