Everyone had heard the legend of the Avatar, but what everyone had forgotten, was the sibling of the Avatar. The one that would always stay with them and help train them in the elements.

                                                                                     *****

Y/N smiled as she followed her mentor through the southern air temple to meet Aang, the one who was said to be new new Avatar. "It's so peaceful here, don't you think Pontus?" Y/N couldn't help but look around in awe.
"It will certainly be the perfect place for your studies"
"My studies? I thought we were visiting an old friend of yours?" Pontus couldn't help but smile at the young girl "We are, but we are also here to study"
"But what can I study here? I'm a water bender, not an air bender"

Pontus only shook his head with a low chuckle as he made his way towards Pasang. The two followed the monk into the temple where they met with the other monks. Y/N was asked to wait outside while the adults spoke in private.

"Y/N, the master air benders would like you to meet someone" Pontus poked his head out of the door to call for his pupil. Y/N made her way through the hall and bowed when she met with the air nomads.

"Ah you must be Y/N, we've heard so much about you. This is Aang, we would like you two to begin training together"
"I would love to master Pasang, but why? I don't see any other benders here other than air benders"
"Well, it's because-"
"They think I'm the new avatar, and you are the avatar's reincarnated sibling" Aang interrupted
Y/N looked at him wide eyed then back at her mentor "Is that true? I didn't even know ... I thought it was just the avatar?"
"You're at the top of your class Y/N, we believe you-"
"Then why didn't anyone tell me this sooner? And why now? I thought--"
"Because the world needs you both and-"
"No! I didn't ask to be the avatar, I don't want to be!"

Y/N had been looking for Aang for hours after that conversation. It wasn't until later that night that she found him in his room, after asking for directions from monk Gyatso. The door was open slightly when she knocked. "Where are you going?"
"I don't want it, I'm not the avatar... I-I'm leaving"
"I'll come with you, I don't exactly want to stay here by myself with people telling me who I should be"

And that was that. The two left that night, and flew straight into the storm. "Aang we have to land, the storm is strong, can't fly in this!" Y/N shouted over the winds and rain. She wasn't sure if Aang heard her or not, but she could tell he was trying to steer Appa through the rain.

She wasn't sure what happened after that. One minute she was in the air, the next she was in the water fighting against the waves, trying to search for Aang and Appa, she screamed for them.

Y/N woke up a few days later. She didn't know where she was. When she tried to sit up she was pushed back down. "Easy, you've been out of it for a while. Sokka! Go get Gran Gran, she's awake"

                                                                                    *****

Y/N had just finished doing her chores when Katara and Sokka came barging into her shared home with Katara and Sokka, with a big smile. Y/N looked at her two friends with a smile as she finished putting her now clean clothes away. It was hard to believe a few weeks ago she didn't know these people.

"What do you two want now?" Y/N asked with a small laugh. Katara opened her mouth to answer but Sokka had beat her to it. "We're going fishing! Do you want to come? It'll be fun!... Well if I don't get wet by Katara's magic wat-"
"Hey! It's not magic water--"
"Alright, you two cut it out. Yes, I'll come but only to make sure you both don't kill each other on the trip."

Sokka and Katara nodded and the three began walking to the small fishing boat. Sokka tried to make some jokes to break the silence, although he would only receive a roll of the eyes from Katara. Still, Y/N would often let out a small chuckle.

Ever since they found Y/N in the snow Sokka has always tried to make sure she felt welcomed.  He always tried to make her laugh, it was his way to help her feel at home. No one knew who she was or where she came from. He guessed she was running from the fire nation. Katara and Sokka were the ones who offered Y/N a place to stay with their grandmother, and of course, Y/N accepted the invitation.

The three friends got into the small boat and Sokka began to make his way into open water so he could attempt to catch fish. Katara was practising her water bending with the help of Y/N, although Y/N didn't use her water bending in front of people, she still offered to teach Katara the basics when she could because she knew she could trust Katara to tell no one that she was a bender.

"I got him this time!" Sokka shouted as he got ready to catch the fish he was stalking. Y/N and Katara looked at Sokka and shook their heads. "You said that last time... In fact, you've said that every time since you saw that poor fish and you still haven't caught it" Y/N spoke as she moved over to sit next to Sokka.

Katara looked over at her brother and her friend. She knew that Sokka was trying to impress Y/N, as he had been ever since they found her, but she didn't understand how Y/N could constantly put up with the randomness, even she couldn't put up with her brother the way Y/N did.

While Y/N and Sokka were sorting out how to catch the fish, Katara saw a fish of her own to catch. She began to concentrate on the water as she went through what she had learnt from Y/N in her head. Slowly a bubble of water began to form around the fish and Katara began to lift it out into the air.

"Look! Sokka Look! I caught one!" Katara cried out with excitement as she made the fish inside the bubble float around. Y/N turned around and smiled brightly at Katara "Well do-"
"Not now Katara, I'm about to catch one!" Sokka began to raise his spear to catch the fish.
"Sokka wait!" Y/N tried to stop him but the bubble of water had already popped and the fish was now back in the water where it once came. Y/N shook her head as the two siblings started arguing again.

"Why is it that whenever you play with magic water I get soaked?!"
"It isn't magic water it's water bending!"

Y/N sighed and began to make her way over to the arguing siblings, that was until she lost her balance and fell onto Sokka.
"Nice of you to drop in" Sokka laughed as Y/N pushed herself off him and looked over the edge of the boat only to see it being dragged down the current.

Sokka attempted to steer out of the current but to no avail.
"Left! Go left!" Katara shouted in an attempt to help her brother get them out.
"Watch out!" Y/N shouted as two pieces of ice made their way into the sides of the boat, Y/N used her water bending to create a wave to get everyone out of the boat and onto a piece of ice just before the boat got crushed.

"I told you to go left!"
"If you wanted to help why didn't you just use your water-bending powers to get us out?!"
"I've had it with you! Ever since Mum died I've been the one sorting everything out while you've just been playing soldier!"
"Umm... K-Katara... You need to calm down"
"No, I won't calm down!"

Y/N watched wide-eyed as she saw Katara break the iceberg behind her. Just as the iceberg began to break Y/N made a wave to push the piece of floating ice away before the berg could smash it. She then looked at Katara and Sokka to make sure no one got hurt in the process.

"I did that..?"
"Yeah, you did"
"At least no one got hurt" Y/N spoke calmly as she walked over to the siblings. The three shared a hug before it got interrupted by a glowing light under the water. The three looked over the edge only to see another iceberg floating upwards and now floating in front of them.

Katara looked inside the iceberg and spotted a boy inside. She stared at the boy, Katara was about to speak when the boy's eyes opened revealing a blue glow.
"He's alive!" Katara spoke in almost a whisper as she jumped on pieces of floating ice to make her way over to the iceberg, Sokka shouted her name and began to follow her, while Y/N just smiled at the boy inside the iceberg that Katara was now trying to break.

"I finally found you"

And with that she made her way over to the siblings, only to see the boy in Katara's arms. She smiled down at him as he began to wake up. She let Katara and the boy talk while she made her way up and into the burg, she slid down the side and smiled to herself "And I found you too Appa"

The boy made his way into the berg and smiled at Y/N while Katara and Sokka were making their way into the berg.
"Y/N?" The boy asked as he looked at Y/N confused.
"The one and only" Y/N smiled
"What are you doing here? I thought--"
"I don't know... One minute I was with you two, the next I woke up in their village... That was, 2 weeks ago now"
"Oh... So  do they know-"
"No, they don't know"
"Could we not tell them who I am... Please?"
"Of course Aang, we're in this together"

Aang smiled and hugged Y/N tightly "Thank you" Y/N smiled and hugged Aang back, and as if on que Katara and Sokka came sliding in. The three were in the middle of making introductions when Appa sneezed on Sokka making everyone laugh.

"If you guys are stuck Appa and I can give you a ride back" Aang offered while smiling at Katara. Y/N smiled at Aang knowing that her 'brother' had now developed a crush on her new best friend.
"Sure!" Katara smiled as she ran over to Appa, while Sokka stood there with crossed arms. Y/N rolled her eyes and walked over to him.
"Come on Sokka... It'll be fun!"
"I dunno it could be dangerous"
"All the more reason for you to come along with us girls" Y/N smiled, nudging him with her arm.  His eyes lit up "You're right! You might need me... and Katara might" Sokka rubbed the back of his neck as he blushed while Y/N just laughed. The two made their way over to Appa, they climbed on and were soon on their way back to the village.
