She stood in the park alone. Four AM in a red dress, waiting for who knows what. Merely standing in the darkness. The wind gently blew around her, sending ripples down her dress, and her hair to sway oh so slightly. A single tear fell down her pale cheek, as she approached an old tree. A slim finger reached out to trace words long forgotten until now, that read 'Just wishful thinking.' Long ago she carved these words, with a father that is now deceased. She drew a knife and carved the tree once more. She grabbed a rope and threw it over a branch, tying the end into a small loop. By this time, tears rolled down her cheeks furiously. She walked over to the lake behind the large tree and pulled a bracelet from her worn jacket. She rolled it between a finger and a thumb before casting it into the black water, causing small ripples to form.

Her mother woke that morning and couldn't find the young girl anywhere. She dialed the police and they started searching. The call she revived was not one she wanted to. With the news she dropped the phone causing it to be caught by the cable that connected it to the wall. She dropped to her knees and held her face in her hands saying "No." over and over, as if it were the only thing she could say.

She stared at the girl, swaying with each passing of the wind. Tears tracked her pale face, and dark hair framed it. Her eyes, now forever closed looked... At peace. As if she were glad to be off of this world entirely. Behind her read the words

'Just empty wishful thinking.'
