Chapter 2 - See Something You Like?

Louis could feel his nervous heartbeat in his ears. He didn’t know whether to be excited, or concerned about his new school. He slid off the chair and walked over to the room to finish unpacking. He pulled out his Ralph Lauren satchel and his Mac Book Pro and sat them on the Victorian style desk. He spread his casual clothes on the bed, bringing a finger to his chin in inquiry.

“What do I wear for casual Sunday?” Louis asked himself out loud. If the weather was anything like today, he would need shorts for sure. The sun was blaring at him through the window, teasing him to come outside. He was hungry, so he opened the school map to view if they had any kind of restaurants. This school had everything. There was even a small Starbucks on campus. Louis slid his Louis Vuitton wallet full of cash in his pocket and his iPhone in his hand. He grabbed some sunglasses and proceeded to walk across campus to Starbucks.

Louis locked his dorm and proceeded down the sunny, air conditioned hall way, glancing awkwardly at people who walked by. Most of them were dressed in casual clothing, like Ralph Lauren sweatpants or Lacoste polos. Usually, a watch sat comfortably on their wrist and a pair of slip-ons at their feet. Back in public school, Louis would’ve been the nicest kid dressed if he wore half the names the other boys wore on “casual” days. Louis loosened his shoulders and took a deep breath. He would fit in this time. He knew it.

Louis walked three quarters across campus to reach the small little Starbucks. When he opened the door, everything looked like a Starbucks you would see on the street, minus the prices. They were almost double; sometimes triple the price of a normal coffee and a bit smaller. Louis stood in line, in awe at how expensive a latté is.

“Next please.” The guy at the counter waved his hand in the air. “What can I get you?”

“I’ll have an ice coffee.” Said Louis, putting a twenty on the counter.

“Great.” The man said, a pen to the cup. “Name?”

“Louis.”

“I haven’t seen you around here before, Louis.” The guy said, writing Louis name in perfect handwriting on the cup.

“I just transferred here.” Louis said, looking into the guy’s eyes.

“Well good luck.” The guy said, “I attend here too. To be honest, I would be careful around Harry Styles.” He whispered.

“The director’s son?” Louis was confused.

“Just be careful.” The man whispered sharply, “And the name is David. Junior, room 347.”

Louis smiled. “Louis, Junior, room 316.”

“Nice.” David winked, “See ya around.” David passed the cup to the guy making the coffees and waved to the next customer.

Louis waited for his coffee and when it arrived, he almost ran right into someone. Louis didn’t even see his face before saying, “I’m so sorry.”

“Yeah man it’s fine.”

Louis looked up and saw the most beautiful pair of green eyes he had ever seen. Along with his eyes, a dimpled smile sat comfortably on his face. His hair was dark brown and looked extremely soft and curly. Louis’ eyes traveled down to a muscular chest and mid-section. Looking back up to his eyes, Harry shot Louis a toothy grin, then punched him firmly in the arm.

“See something you like?” Harry snickered, walking towards the counter, not even double glancing back at Louis. David shot Louis a sympathetic look from the corner of his eyes. Louis smiled and left the Starbucks, the sun blaring on his skin.  He returned to his dorm to sleep. He was exhausted.

******

Louis awoke at four in the afternoon on Sunday. The bed he had slept in was memory foam with Egyptian cotton sheets. Even though he had slept through the entire day, Louis felt tired and weak. He got out of bed and slipped on a pair of Calvin Klein skinnies and a plain v neck sweater. Dinner was in an hour, so he needed to be ready. He grabbed his hairspray and styled his hair perfectly. Thankfully, the dining hall had assigned seats, so he wouldn’t have to walk around aimlessly looking for a seat. He opened his laptop and stared at Facebook for a while. He needed to kill time. He didn’t want to go out and experience something similar to yesterday.

At 4:45, Louis closed his laptop and grabbed his phone and keys. He locked up and followed the map to the dining hall. A hand tapped his shoulder. “Oh no.” Louis thought.

“Louis!” It was David. “Walk with me!”

Louis let out a sigh of relief. “I thought you were Harry.” Louis said under his breath.

“I thought you would think that.” David laughed. “Common, I think we sit together!”

Louis followed David to the dining hall. His last name was written in bold handwriting on a card, beside it, David’s name was written in the same writing.

“Sweet.” David whispered. “We’re sitting together.” Louis smiled at David. He seemed to be a really nice guy. A few seats down on the other side of the table, Harry sat cackling with his entourage. He was dressed in a dress shirt and black pants, a tie hanging loosely from his neck. Their eyes met and Louis immediately looked away. He couldn’t repeat yesterday’s experience. From the corner of his eye, Louis could see Harry smirk. It wasn’t even the first day of classes and he was already getting involved in Harry’s bullshit. Louis knew this would not end well.

David sensed Louis’ discomfort and put a hand on his arm. “Don’t worry.” He whispered. “Nothing will happen. You’ll be fine.” David had the nicest smile. Louis was happy he at least knew one person.

“So do you have your school schedule yet?” David asked, his brown eyes glimmering.

“Yes actually.” Louis pulled a yellow piece of paper out of his pocket and showed it to David.

“Oh my god.” David said, “We only have one class together.” David frowned.

“That’s too bad.” Louis frowned. He wondered how many classes he would have with Harry.

Dinner was over and people began to leave the dining hall. Louis stood up and walked with David to their dorm rooms.

“I’ll see you tomorrow Tomlinson!” David laughed. Louis smiled and unlocked his door. He changed into pajamas and almost immediately fell asleep.
