Slamming the door to my black Chevrolet convertible i pulled my sunglasses down to cover m eyes throwing. my log blonde hair over my shoulders. Walking down the street in the beautiful California sunshine towards my tattoo studio, i was in heaven.I had worked through the blood sweat and tears and i had built my career from scratch earning the reputation as one of the best tattooist's in California. This allowed me to move to a bigger premises just on the out skirts of charming three months ago work was my life and the only constant thing i had in it. I smiled catching the glimpses of men as i walked down the street to my tattoo studio clutching my bag, i was used to this i always seemed to catch people's eye.
Pushing open the door to my tattoo studio i slid my sunglasses off of my face so i could take a good look around. 2 months it had taken to create the perfect space. Solid oak floors, with pure exposed brick work where i hung black and white images of all my work. I had red vintage couches in the waiting opposite a vintage glass reception desk, my work space was in the back of the shop.
" Hey doll" I said smiling walking over to my receptionist cherry, she was my little pocket rocket, new to town like myself, she walked in 3 months ago as i was renovating the shop looking for work and we've been friends ever since. Walking round the reception desk she swung round on her chair.
"Mr 1.30 is in there prepped and ready to go " she said taking a sip of her soda.
"Thanks doll, jesus its hot out there thank god for the ac in here" i said putting my glasses and bag down on the reception desk so i could tie my hair back.
" Tell me about it i'm just glad that half sack is dropping me off at work i would melt in this heat" She said leaning back in the chair.
"So things are still going good" I asked giving her a playful nudge as i picked up my bag.
" Yeah i mean i think he's the one stella" she said smiling from ear to ear. I leaned over and gave her a peck on the cheek.
" It's about time! Hey you fancy a drink later?" i asked about to walk into the back.
" That would be great! She replied, I blew her a kiss and walked into the back room.
5hours later i closed the shop door behind a very happy customer, one free hand back piece was now complete, from the minute the my studio had opened my bookings were stacked out and i loved it keeping busy meant i didn't have time to stop and worry about anything else.
" Well deserved" me and Cherry clinked our bottles in the bar over the road from the studio, i had quickly changed in the studio before we came out into a plain black cami dress with camel wedges with my long blonde hair laying over my shoulders.
" I couldn't do any of this without you, you're amazing Cherr" I said taking a long swig of beer.
" What made you get into "She asked turning her body towards mine at the bar, the place was getting busier and busier my the hour.
" Hmmm i'm not sure really, i always loved art and drawing when i was younger and then as i got older i started tattooing at parties, the more i did it the more i loved it, it's like an addiction." i said emphasising the love with my hands.
" Were your parents artistic" She asked as i signalled to the bartender for two beers.
" No, erm i never actually knew my parents" I said breaking eye contact with her to pay for the drinks.
"Why didn't you?" She asked.
" No idea maybe they decided they just didn't want to be parents" I replied passing her the beer.
" Have they never tried to contact you through the year's? " She asked making puzzled.
" Whats the sudden interest Cherry?" I asked looking at her as she turned to look around the bar, pulling the label away from the bottle.
"Cherry?" I said as she appeared a little nervous
"Look you know the club half sacks in?" She said looking at me.
" The sons?" I signalled she nodded taking a swig of beer.
" They want to meet you" She said
" Meet me? Why" I asked frowning.
" They know something about your parents" she said leaning into me, It knocked me for six i hadn't thought about my parents for a long time i hadn't allowed myself to think about it.
" Look they wanted me to approach you first and ask the question" She said as her phone beeped. Picking it up she smiled, must be half sack. " I have to go, but they're having a BBQ at the club house tomorrow at 2,they really want you to be there".
" Cherry i dont kn-" I said running a hand through my hair, she pulled me into a brief hug pulling away she kept a hold of my arms.
" Think about it at least ok, just text me" She asked as i nodded and squeezed her hand before she left.I sat there for the next few hours fighting off admirers and drinking in silence, maybe it was the alcohol but i pulled out my iphone and text Cherry.
I'll be there x
Standing up i placed my money on the bar and walked out in between the sea of people, suddenly someone grabbed my arm.
" Hey Louann! " I turned round to see a table full of men in their mid fifties.
" Sorry Lovely, we thought you were someone else" Said the drunk man putting his hands up in the air, i smiled politely a left realising i had done so at the exact right time.
