Just Friends?

First day

It was me and him. Friends. That's all. We have been friends since forever. Since the day I meet him on the playground. He fell off the swing and everyone laughed, so I walked over and helped him up. This was 2nd grade by the way. So things don't spread so fast but after that day we were best friends. We hung out every day from then on. But then 9th grade was about to start and he was leaving me on open, or read or he just wasn't opening my text. I was worried but thought it would be fine. A week passed and it was the first day in high school. I didn't see him standing with his friends Daniel, Corbyn, Jack and Jonah . I went and stood with my friends, Ember, Britney, Lara, and Atlanta.

"Where's Zach." Says Ember.

"I'm not sure, he wasn't standing with all his friends." I say this with the slightest scared feeling in my voice like somethings wrong almost like I knew something was wrong.

"He might just be late." Lara says this with such a calm sense in her voice it makes me feel fine again. The bell rings and they finally let us in the school. Still could not see Zach anywhere. Me, Ember, Atlanta all have first period together. We all went to our class and sat down. Ember has been one of my best friends since 4th grade and we hung out all the time. She was know as the "horse girl." She was nice and won lots of her riding tournaments. Atlanta was a caring type and always saw the glass half full instead of half empty. We walked in the room and the teacher told us to sit wherever we please. Me, Ember, and Atlanta all sat at one table. There was an extra spot but no one sat there. The teacher started role like most teachers do.

"Whimberly."

"Here."

"Ember."

"Here."

"Daniel." I look across the room to see Daniel sitting there with Corbyn. He wasn't here this morning so I just thought he came a little late. The teacher continued with role call.

"Chloe." That was me. After my name is always Zach. So if he's in this class with me he would come right after me...hopefully.

"Ms. Rahford."

"Oh sorry I'm here." I want to have a class with Zach at least one.

"Zach." No one answers, but at least I know that he is in my class. It was boring most of the day. With the addition of having study hall with Zach, I also had it with Daniel, Corbyn, and Jonah. I had two more classes with Zach but he never showed. Me and Jack talked a lot today to. Me and Jack have almost all our classes together. The only classes we didn't have together was study hall and science. I didn't ask him about Zach because for some reason it just didn't come to mind. I got home and texted Zach. This time he answered. He said that he got strep-throat the day before school and had to be on antibiotics for 24 hours before he could come back. I told him that we had some classes together and he seemed to think it was a great idea. He asked me about Jack....

-Did you and Jack talk a lot today.-

So I told him....

-Not to much, hey we have like almost all our classes together though, why?-

He didn't respond after that. He read it but didn't reply. Was he jealous? No, he couldn't be we were only friends. Even if I did have the slightest crush on
him, but I knew he didn't like me. So then something happened with me and Jack. A spark? I don't know. Whatever it was, was making Zach mad.
