Chapter Two - Back in Black

S.S

After cleaning rearranging his storage closet, Severus was almost ready to apparate for Hogwarts. He just needed to ward house from unwanted company. Severus detested the idea of instructing snotty-nosed children again, and that Potter boy always managed to naturally get under his skin.

He sighed impatiently and ran a hand through his ebony hair. 'Damn, why did I fuck myself over?'

No matter how many times he apparated to Hogwarts, his foul mood always seemed to worsen. But this year—it felt different, almost darker. His Dark Mark would give the slightest tingle, and he was ready to jump off the Astronomy Tower. Snape bore one last look at his tenebrous house and apparated with a trunk to Hogwarts.

Once he landed, he took a couple deep, steadying breaths and walked to the border of the grounds. He eyed the enchanted castle bitterly—another miserable year to deal with exploding cauldrons and insolent children. Snape walked briskly until he noticed a man merely standing by the Black Lake: Albus Dumbledore. Snape figured Albus had been aware of his presence once he stepped foot on the familiar grounds.

"Severus, my dear boy, come. I need to have a word with you." Dumbledore called.

Snape huffed and made his way over to the headmaster's side.

"What it is that you want, Albus?" Snape drawled.

"I would like to inform you that the Hogwarts will be hosting the Triwizard Tournament this year."

"Albus, for Merlin's Sake! You are just now mentioning this to me?! Do you possess any idea of how much of a danger this can present to the school?!" Snape hissed angrily.

"Must've slipped my mind, Severus," Dumbledore said nonchalantly, "But that isn't the particular reason why I called you over here."

"Then stop with your nonsense and inform me, I need to unpack my things," Snape spat

Dumbledore smiled wryly, "There will be a new student arriving, and her name is Maya Gold. Maya is attending her sixth year, and she is taking NEWT level potions. I want you to keep an eye on her."

"You want me to babysit some sixteen-year-old?!" exclaimed Snape.

"Not babysit, Severus, just watch over." Dumbledore eyed Snape, who was fuming.

"I believe "watch over" is the equivalent to babysit," Sarcasm dripped from Snape's velvety voice, "I refuse, Albus."

"It wasn't a request. It was an order." The visible edge that instantly appeared in Dumbledore's gentle voice made Snape swallow.

"Very well, sir," Snape relented in a perilously deep growl.

"Now," Dumbledore clapped his hands together, "My dear boy, get ready and freshen up. The beginning feast will begin in a few hours." And with that, Dumbledore walked away without another word.

'Damn him! Why don't I watch over every house and be Madam Pomfrey's assistant while I'm at it?!' Snape thought sarcastically.

Snape finally made it to his quarters, and he carefully unloaded his truck. With a flick of his wand, all of his possessions were tucked away. He sat down on his couch and sighed drowsily. Snape hadn't even been at Hogwarts for twenty-four hours, and he was already being asked to do things that didn't require his assistance. Snape...oh, he'll undoubtedly make her life a living hell. If that bloody girl slipped up once, she'll be on the train home.
