the air was warm as the sun shined brightly in the sky, a cloudless day. A bautiful one at that, Amber Skylie was walking down the street towards the bus stop. Nearing the end of highschool, Amber always thought she'd have a friend to stand next to at the Graduation ceramony. However that was not the case, Amber could never find someone who truly was a friend. Some wanted to make her their next project, change her from who she was to what they wanted. Others wanted to use her anyway they wanted, steal from her, make her fetch their stuff. Amber finally wised up one day and stood up for herself, best decison she ever made was to cut contact with those who never cared, and distance herself from her class mates. But how she wished, longed and hoped for a friend, a friend who liked her for herself.
She stopped at the bus stop and waited, Amber could not drive and her parents where always gone by the time she awoken. The bus was her only transportation, and the worst part of all, was that it was summer. Though Amber studied like crazy and did everything she could, it just was not enough to keep her from summer school.
"its either summer school or be held back a year Ms. Skylie" Princaple Heckford said sitting back in her chair.
"are you sure theres no other way?" Amber asked sounding desprit. But answer was no. that was a week ago before school ended for the summer. though her parents were not thrilled, they knew Amber hated this as much as they did. All their summer plans wasted, was swept up and gone the wind.
As Amber stood waiting for the bus to come, thoughts sworlled her mind, thoughts of what could happen if she just did not go on the bus. Snuck into her nice comfy bed after returning home, then sneaking out once her parents came home and walking in through the front door saying "im home from summer school!".
But she knew she could not, she had to go, her parents would find out. The school would call and ask if Amber was sick, her parents would say they say their healthy as a horse daughter leave for school. What could happen next was either her mother going home and checking every room until they found her, or the police would be called in fearing their daughter was kidnapped or even killed. I wonder, thought Amber. If i were to die, excluding my family, who would show up to my funural?. Before she could continue these thoughts, the bus squeeked to a stopped taking her mind away from those uhealthy thoughts.
Amber sighed and walked onto the bus, the air conditioning had a soothing touch on her warm skin. as she looked around she noticed a few class mates stuck with her on the bus heading to school, she walked the row as the doors shut and the bus started off. Amber sat in the middle row by the window to watch as everything rolls by. the buildings, the trees, the cars, the road itself and people. Amber sat back and plugged in her earbuds, she scrolled throw songs until she settled on an album then went back to looking out the window. Daydreaming as the bus goes on:
that out of no where a bolder lands infront of the bus. Causing the bus to stop and tumble over, then the boulder opens to reveal that it was actually a ship.
Amber snapped out of dream world when the bus came to a screetching holt and the driver said: "Everybody out, nice and neat lines people!" they had arrived at that prison called Summer school.
The halls were sparkiling clean, the floor reflected everything from lockers, to doors, even the walls ceiling and students were reflected in it. If you were mad at someone, and they were walking down the hall at the same time as you were. You could have stepped on their head and and felt a little bit better, they could not feel the pain thus not getting in trouble with in school. Though Amber could not talk her way out of being in trouble in school if she needs to, a con to her distancing herself from people. The princaple would believe everyone else but her, the reasoning woulf be that Amber would be labeled as "unpredictable" and a bottled up storm of emotions just waiting to explode on a poor innocent student.
the door squeaked open into one of the classes Amber had failed, she silently ignored all the heads that turned to looked at her as she made her way to the back of the class and sat down by a window. The students starred at her for a moment more, then went back to conversing with each other. Some talking to crushes, dating people, friends, groups. Amber looked out the window, she pictured a figure outside the window smiling and beckoning her to come out. It was the friend she'd always wanted, a friend who understood her, a friend that would never leave her. One who could acompany her on adventure's, one who they will go to college together, one who will make her happy when she's sad. Amber sighed and wipped the escaping tear from her eye, she knew a friend like that did not exist. She knew that the friends you grow up with, will be stronger then friends you make later on. Amber longed for a friend like the imaginary ones she grew up with, she got close once. But then the original friend had moved back, and Amber was heartbroken, and alone again. that's all Amber was, alone. The emptiness she felt, some days it was unbearable and she had to hide her feelings with a smile. "just smile" she would tell herself. "smile, like nothing is wrong. no one needs to know".
the teacher came in and wrote on the chalkboard, Amber looked up emotionless in response to the teaches presence.
"good morning class, i'm Mrs. Winchester. your history teacher for the summer" the classroom groaned having been reminded it was summer and they were trapped inside learning. The teacher calmed them down. "i know, i know. summer school, im not fund of it either. we'll all just get through this together, okay?" when she didnt get a positive response she turned to the board, wrote and begon the lesson.
by the time class was over Amber had covered her note book in doodles, the next class was cancelled because the teacher had gotten news his son was in a car wreck and had to leave. everyone stayed inside the classroom and did whatever they wanted, needless to say it got loud quickly. Amber plugged in her headphones played her album again, and closed her eyes resting her head on the desk. She started to think of what if's, what if she had wings and could fly? where would she go what would she do?, what if the floor opened up revealing a portal the everyone fell into but her cause she could fly. Then she thought of the most unrealistic thing she could, What if she had a friend? we'll they would go to restrains together, spend alot of time together, text all day long and the texts cold have been emojie wars, or animal sounds like "mew" and she would reply with "arroo". Amber shook her head.
no. she thought. it can't be, besides i dont need a friend. friends that are true only exist in movies on tv. and in labs.
her last thought made her smile, Amber did think alot on the subject of friends. Most of the time she didnt want to, but it just happened.
The bus had stopped and Amber got out, she walked to her house and went inside. Her parents weren't home, they were stil at work. She made her way up to her room and set her stuff down, she grabbed what she needed then left the house. She started walking down the street, passed a few new houses and then came upon a flyer posted to a pole. She took it down and looked at it. "a circus? circus killavill? whats a killavill?" she said scanning the poster, on the poster were some sketches of creatures. A spider lady called madam spiderkin, a dragon boy, the worlds one and only walking mushrooms. "come one! come all! 2 weeks only! circus killavill!" she skipped to the end "8:30 every night...hmmm.." Amber stuffed it into her pocket and walked on.
how much you wanna bet its a scam?. she thought. spiderkin? maybe a lady with noodles attached to her torso.
Amber went into the store and looked around until she foud a box of pockey, she took one checked out and walked to the park. She sat on a swingset and ate the pockey's, she watched the children play on the rest of the playground. she pulled out the flyer again, and looked at it. Scanning the sketches of some of the possble fakes, she smirked. "of course their fake, sketches instead of pictures. please, who would believe they were real anomalies?" Amber laughed and shoved into her pocket again. She finished the box, threw it away and left the park.
fakes. Amber thought. A bunch of nonsense.
