My days start off the same as many peoples. A stupid alarm rings and a grumble comes from within. Yet another boring day. Just work, that's all I ever seem to do. I mean, I don't mind it, I just feel like I'm wasting away my life here. It's my senior year and I want to go out with my friends and have fun and do typical high school girl things, but damn that would be wishful thinking. My days begin with school. I roll over to my side and shut off my alarm. I checked my phone for any new notifications. I had a few snap chats from friends and a text from my BFF, Maddie.
"Coffee run before school? :)" she texted.
"Sure thing, I'll be ready in 1o." I replied back and put my phone down.
I walked over to the bathroom and washed my face. The cool water rushed out of the faucet and brought some life into me. It felt nice. It made me feel alive. I washed my face off and brushed my teeth. I walked back into my room and threw on a pair of skinny jeans and a t shirt. I grabbed my backpack and my cell phone and headed downstairs.
"Morning sweetie." my mother said.
She was getting ready for work herself. She was seated at the kitchen table with her laptop open looking at the numbers from last night.
"Morning mom" I said as I smiled at her.
"Hey, I'm gonna need you in right after school tonight. We have a lot of reservations in the books for tonight and I'm gonna need as much help as I can get. Also, if any of your friends need jobs, please send them my way. We are so short staffed right now I'll take whatever I can get," she said as she swiveled the laptop towards me so I could look at what we had in store for tonight.
"Mom, all of my friends already work there." I said with a sigh.
She looked at me and frowned.
"What, you know it's true! I'm a nobody at that school!" I pleaded.
"You are not. I just meant if any of your classmates needed some quick cash I could use them a few nights a week."
"Mom, if kids want fast cash they just sell drugs." I said, rolling my eyes.
"Jackie!" my mother exclaimed.
A heard a car horn beep and I shot my head towards the direction of the noise.
"Maddie's here, gotta go! See you later!" I said as I grabbed my bag and darted out the front door.
"Bye honey have a great day!" She said as I slammed the door shut.
I walked over to the passenger side door of my best friends Honda Civic. I threw my backpack into the back seat as she reversed out of the driveway.
"Girl, I'm in desperate need of coffee, I barely slept last night!" Maddie exclaimed.
Maddie and I became friends because of Club Venice. She had moved here about two years ago from Ohio and worked for us over the summer before junior year. At first I had a strange feeling about her, but that feeling quickly passed. We had hung out one night after work and got ice cream and smoked on the beach with her boyfriend, Jason. We sat on the shore and talked for hours and hours about anything and everything. Since then, we've been inseparable. I practically live at her house on the weekends because I'm there so much.
She was a short girl with dark brown hair and hazel eyes. She was quirky and brilliant and radiant and beautiful. She was my best friend and I loved her more than anybody. She was my sister and I would do anything for her.
"Me too, I was up all night and I just couldn't sleep! I don't know why!" I exclaimed.
"I know why," she said with a smirk.
