VIII - In Which the Prophecy of the Element Animals is Translated

Start from the beginning

Perhaps just a figment of my overactive imagination, but there's an inkling of...

"You mean you don't know?!"

...a prophecy.

"Yes, I don't know!"

A prophecy about a subject millions of years old, one so basic every animal knows it...

"Why then did I assume you did?!"

The Ieoiecae och te Etlesmyeut Auismyatls in the ancient language, or the Prophecy of the Element AnimalsAnd so it begins:

Etlesmyeuts och choue, subjects och gtlorichied tloe,

Translated, it would be:

Elements of four, subjects of glorified lore,
do, as told, in the peace all lull'd--
the quest saved for them, a hidden gem
twinkling through creation, with'n every nation,
the gift that every upon birth is gifted.
But lo! is so fragile, and its destructor so agile,
that, in an instant, is torn, not resistant
and the animal host--joins the Holy Ghost.

Now to stop the destruction of every fortold
and to save the Land of Brightrose and all of its gold,
three of great power shall embark on a journey
needing those brave of soul and nature's attorney.

The journey begins with a simple, light battle

where one goes awry and turns from the mantle
and soon becomes hungry and then becomes thirsty,
but remains unquenched and then turns to, firstly,
the controlling of minds and the chilling of souls
and turns to, finally, the power ancient holds.

Few creatures powerful enough can face the one, stop the one.
But try they might; stay determined, or the war is already won.

The final battle occurs on a place, so high
it lies hidden among the clouds upon the twilight nigh,
and shall end in silence as thick as a fog
that will cover the Land of Brightrose and be broken by sobs.

And now you know of the elements four,
who embarked on a travel, as mentioned afore,
and some who came back, victorious yet lost,
while traumatized from an unseen cost.

Now heed my words carefully as I finish this--
and beware of the consequences that you may have missed.

I sat up, my eyes snapping open to peer at Silentwing's and Bramble's concerned, surprised faces. They gaped at me, and I grinned at them. "Howdy. What did I miss?"
