chapter one

Kelvin's POV.

Am waking up for the third time today, and its still 2 am. Am a little excited....OK a lot excited. Going to school at Forcados high school has always been a dream of mine, since well last two months. I still remember a few months ago my dad and I calling them "showoffs" and now am so excited to be there, how the tables have turned.
I stand up from my bed and turn on the light bulb to view the clothes I would be wearing for my first day in high school  I really want to make a good long lasting impression, so I wear a cobalt blue sweat shirt and black ripped jeans, with the Jordan's mom bought for me last Christmas. I stare at it for while which is like the third time tonight.
I know am acting like a child. I rake my hands through my blonde hair and I hear a squeak at the door.
"Can't sleep huh?" My mom asks, and I smile.

"Come" she says leading me to the bed, I feel like a five year old who wants to play with his toys but gets caught .

"My boy " she begins cupping my face with her hands. Oh boy here we go, I mentally roll my eyes.
"Your father and I are so proud of you, although he may not show it but just know that you passing this exam is one of the best things you could do for us. You should see him brag about"

"Wow, father bragged" I said making sure to sound sacarstic.
" mhmm" she didn't get the sacarsim.
I fake yawn "mom I think am feeling sleepy now"
"Sure you do, you have a big day tomorrow" she says and pecks me on my forehead.
"Goodnight" she says and turns off the light. And am left all alone once more, waiting for sleep to take me captive.

I woke up to the smell of pancakes which am already used so, the sun was already up n shining into my room, hitting its beams on the window and I smiled to my self.
"This is it" I said as I got outta bed, dressed it and headed to the bathroom to take a shower. it take extra time in bath than usual, using extra shampoo than should to get a good scent on me. When am done with almost all the bottles, I debate on whether to dress up before heading downstairs or wear my robe. I grab my robe from the hanger in the bathroom and head down, no way am getting maple syrup on my outfit.

"Your not dressed yet?" Mom asks when she sees me at the bottom of the stairs, yeah duh I don't want to spill on my shirt.
"After breakfast mom" I say and take my plate to the table.

"Oh breakfast I did come on time" Daniel said immediately he comes in. Daniel has been my best friend since childhood, and has been with me all my life except now we're going to different high schools and he was actually the one who talked me into writing the exams and I still wonder why he didn't get to write too. Daniel is the most intelligent person I know, and I know its not because of money because its a scholarship exam. I tried asking him once but he changed the subject.
"Yep your right on time" I say and pass him a plate of pancakes.
" don't you ever get tired of eating pancakes every morning" Daniel asks and everywhere goes into an awkward silence.

"Maybe, maybe not" I say and my mom looks at me.
" he had always liked it since he was five and doesn't really like any other breakfast food" mom explains.
"So are you excites to see the school?" Daniel asked really excited shaking off the pancake  question.
"You know I am, I heard they have a really beautiful lake behind it, where you can get an awesome view of the sunset"
"Fancy. But I still think they're showoffs" Dad says and sits down, while mom passes his plate and apple juice in front of him.
"Thanks swidy" he says and gives mom a swift kiss. I have always adored their love for each other, although there was this one time it was getting my nerves but now it's cool.
"Oh and not just that their rooms aren't cramped up like regular colleges" Daniel adds.
"Kelvin tells me you didn't write the exam Danny, but your clearly in love with the school, so why didn't you" dad asks not looking up and realizing the spot he put Daniel in , a very tight spot if I should say.
"Dad"
"What?, I just asked a question"
"I did try out" Danny finally says
"You did?" I and dad ask
"But what happened " mom asks joining us at the table.
"I didn't make it, so instead of being bomed about it, I just pretended it never happened"
  The  whole room goes silent, a very awkward silence.
"Sorry man" I say when I finally find my voice.
"No it's OK, I feel so glad yo finally let it out to someone ".
" well" I say standing up ,"lemme go change into my clothes and I'll be with you guys in a sec." Talking about Forcados right now makes me feel terrible, he rejoiced for me when he felt so bad, I wasn't making any effort to get into the school but it was his life long dream, I feel really bad for him.
"Right behind you buddy" danny says and walks up to me. "You don't need to feel sorry for me, it just wasn't meant to be. At least one of us got in" he says and I smile, this is why his my best friend.
"You know they also have the hottest chicks"
"Yeah right like any girl is gonna be hotter than Bianca from geometry" I say and roll my eyes. Bianca is pretty much the hottest, sexiest, girl I know. Too bad she leaves blocks away from here and I don't get to see her unless during geometry.
"Dude you still crushing on that girl" danny asks opening the door to my room.
"Your just jealous I got a better view of her ass from my seat"
"Yeah right" danny says and chuckles.
I pick up my comb and decided my hair for the day.
"You know your one of the few guys I know that never know the meaning of bad hair day"
"Yeah" I smirk, his right I've never had a bad hair day or hair cut, I want to ask him about his exam gone wrong but I decide against it.
"So what's this I hear about hot girls?" I ask trying to get a good topic.
"Always about the ladies ey" Danny says in half a chuckle "well your going there so you'll give me the feedback buddy" . we both laugh very hard. I dress up and stand in front of Danny.
"Well what do you think?"
"Like a Forcadian" he teases and we both laugh, and leave the room.
The drive to Forcados is actually quiet and not as I expected. When I spot the sign board for Forcados high my heart skips a beat and a lump forms in my chest what if I don't fit it? What if am not Forcados material? What if..... What if... Ah I've ran out of question to ask my self but that's pretty much the highest question of all, what if am not Forcados material?
I don't realise the car has stopped until mom touches my arm. A smile perpetually plastered on everyone's face.
"What's your room number?" Mom asks holding my hand, as dad and Danny help me with my stuffs  mom am not five anymore. Mom just doesn't want to let go off my arm, I try to shake free but her grip's kinda strong.
"Mom?"
"Oh "
She let's go of my hand and I grab some of my stuffs. I take a glance at her and I realize she looks like she's going to cry, I smile at her as Danny leads the way to my room.
" Room 7318" I say as we begin ascending the stairs. The stairs have gold rails and white tiles, even the walls are painted white and gold, I try to hide my expression when people pass us by.
"7318" Danny says coolly and I know he's also trying to hide his glee. Danny knocked at the door and a cute brown haired boy opens the door

"Oh my roommate" he says smiling and opens the door. Am taken aback by what I see in the room. Two huge ward ropes at both sides of the room with gold rails and white painting. Master size mirrors on each side of the room, nice comfy looking beds and room is not cramped up at all.
"Whoa!" I and Danny exclaim at once, am overwhelmed. And just before I can get a grip on myself mom hugs me. All the tears she had been holding earlier were now released on my shirt.
There are no need for words, I'll miss her too, she has been the best mom in the world to me, I really love her. I pour my all into the hug I give her and let out a breath I didn't even realize I was holding. Soon dad joined in the hug and so did Daniel, right in front of my new roommate but I don't care, fuck Forcardo and it's people I don't care especially at a time like this, I turn around to see the look on my roomies face, he must be smirking now, but what I see is not what I really expect, my new roomies is unpacking for me, am thrilled.
"Oh your such a darling" mom says in a shaky voice calling me back to earth.
"You really didn't have to" she says wiping her tears with her hanky.
"Nah its cool I just didn't want to disturb your little family........thing" he says with a smile.
"Meg, don't cry OK, its OK, kelvin can come visit us whenever he wants to and we too can also visit, don't cry" dad says and kisses his beloved wife and she nods her head.
"My boy, remember your father and I love you, and no matter how things turnout to be never forger who you are, OK, I love you" mom says and hugs me.
"I love you too mom"
"We would love to spend the whole day with you but....."
"Yeah I get it" I tell dad and hug him.
"I love you dad, its not like am sentenced to death or anything am in high school".
And lastly I hug Danny "don't forger to hook me up with the hot dames here"
"Yeah I know that buddy"
"Bye kel" they all say and leave I and my new roomie.
"My mom cried for 3 days when I left" my new roommate tells me as he keeps unpacking.
"Why?" I ask joining him.
"Well am kinda the only surviving child of my parents, my mom told me I had a twin when I was born but she died when we were two, then six years later, I had brother who died few hours after birth, so am the only one, at least you have a twin bro"

"Wait you think" I just can't stop myself from laughing "wait you think, you really think, Danny is my twin brother"

"Well yeah" he replies turning to face me
"No he's not, he's my best friend" I correct and we both laugh.
"Well am sorry to hear your story"
"Nah its OK, I don't feel bad about it anymore"
"Are you on scholarship or your parents have the rich fat cash?"

"Scholarship"
"Well thanks again for helping me unpack, you really saved me........"
"Theo you know Theodore"
"Cool am kelvin but you can call me kel"
Now I've arrived I realize that its not the school that's special but the people in it, and I really want to contribute. Tomorrow will be Saturday and no school till Monday. That's enough time to get adjusted to life here. And with Theo I think things will go well in school, and the chicks Danny talked of, I think they can wait till am settled well. But right now making my parents proud here and showing that am Forcados material, is that matters to me right now.

Hi guys, am really excited for you guys to read my novel. You know this was the first novel I had ever written in an exercise book during my high school days. My classmates would read each chapter and encourage me to write more and to be honest I really need that encouragement from you guys too.
