Not My First Guess

Edge had endured all sorts of pain and torture. Being in Underfell, he had to, especially as Captain of the Royal Guard, and most monster's number one enemy. Even though Underswap and Underfell had merged into a semi-peaceful universe, Edge still felt pain, But this pain was different. It wasn't physical, no broken bones or scars, at least on the outside. But he was slowly killing himself with the hate he bore himself.

When Stretch and Red went to Grillby's to drink and smoke, two activities Edge most certainly did not approve of, Blue jumped at the chance to keep the taller skeleton company. And this led him to the present moment, waiting anxiously for Blue to arrive, not sure if he wanted him there or not. Edge was smart; he knew he couldn't survive much longer like this. But telling others what was destroying his sanity; the results could be catastrophic.

Edge was ripped out of his thoughts by a knock on the door. Trying his best not to blush or hyperventilate, Edge let Blue inside. Blue was spastic as usual, bouncing off the walls and looking for something to clean. Edge led him, bouncing excitedly, to the couch, where he proceeded to ask Blue if he was interested in a game.

Blue was so excited to see Edge without his brother butting in and ruining everything. So when Edge proposed a game, Blue immediately consented before Edge had finished talking. But, he felt that Edge was, well, on edge. He would not look Blue in the eye sockets and his breathing seemed just slightly labored. Had you not known him, nothing would appear out of the ordinary, but to Blue, Edge looked very, very uncomfortable. Hoping to fix this, Blue volunteered to go first.

"Okay, truth or dare?" Edge asked. Blue squealed, he loved that game. "Truth!" he promptly responded.

"What's one thing only your brother knows about you?" Edge's eye lights bored into Blues, Edge taking great care not to unlock his gaze.

"Mweh heh heh! That's easy! I was malnourished until I got my own job; Papy tried really hard to provide for both of us, but he was working, so I always let him have more. That's why I'm so short!" Blue ended his speech seriously, but with a hint of humor. Edge, having never seen Blue serious before, scooped up the smaller skeleton and pet him on the head. Knowing what Egde was after, Blue began to purr. This game that they played was not so much to amuse Blue, though it did, as it was to soothe Edge, though he would never admit it.

"Alright, your turn," Blue turned hiss face up toward Edge's. "Truth or dare?" he jumped off of the taller's lap and sat next to him on the couch.

Edge's reaction was instantaneous. He stiffened, eye lights shrinking to pinpricks, cheekbones flushing as he responded quietly "Truth"

Blue had never seen Edge like this before; it was quite unnerving. But his curiosity won him over. Why was Edge acting like this in the first place? He clearly had something to share. And Blue intended to find out what it was.

"Same question applies to you. What's something only your brother knows about you?" Blue knew he had asked the right question when Edge paled. His eye lights shrunk even further, making his eye sockets almost entirely black. When he spoke, it was quietly, with a tremor of abject terror underlying his words.

"I'm not who you think I am." His breath was coming in shallow gasps as he curled in on himself. Blue had never seen Edge lose his composure this way before. He rushed to comfort the taller skeleton, whispering reassurances and petting his skull. Edge took a moment to regain his composure before continuing. "For one thing, my soul." He let it float out of his ribcage. It was cracked, broken, and a dull grey, almost black. Blue had never seen a monster in so much pain. It made him see red, DETERMINED to dust whatever monster made Edge feel this way.

"Who did this?" he asked, trying to keep himself from going full on yandere. The answer was the last one he expected. Edge put his hand over Blues and pulled it close as his soul floated back to it's cage.

"Me."

"Edge!" Blue exclaimed, his inner mother coming out. "Why on earth would you do that to yourself? I'm very disappointed in your inability to tel someone when something is wrong. From now on, when you're hurting, you tell me, and we'll fix it together, alright?" An angry Blue looked him in the eyes, looking like an angry kitten, and Edge couldn't help but smile a little as he squeezed the smaller skeleton's hand.

"Deal."

Blue plopped himself down on Edge's lap and placed his hands around his waist like a seat belt, so Edge was hugging him. "Now tell me why you hurt so much." This game of truth or dare had become a counseling session, but Blue didn't mind in the least. If it helped Edge, he wouldn;t have it any other way.

"I umm," Edge looked at the ceiling nervously.  "I distanced myself from every other monster, including myself, so I wouldn't rope them in, and now I'm doing just that. Blue, I... I'm not only a submissive monster, I never had a childhood, and so, well," Here Blue looked up encouragingly at him, promising that he would never leave though his big blue eyes. "I want one now."

"We will get you a childhood. Where do we start?" Blue jumped up and stared at Edge, who just realized what he had done. He told someone else about his regressive tendencies. His world started spinning, he couldn't breathe. Blue's voice came from far away, as if underwater, begging him to snap out of it. But Edge couldn't. The familiar fuzziness began to overtake his brain, and this time, Edge did not stop it. He allowed himself to end the pain, if only for a few moments. He allowed himself to begin his life again.

Blue was freaking out. Edge clutched his skull, clearly in intense pain. Still mulling over what he meant by "needing a childhood" Blue suddenly understood. It was helped in part by the growing stain on Edge's pants as he lost control of his bladder. He literally needed to be taken care of like a babybones. Blue was going to fix his boyfriend, no matter what it took. He took off his gloves and got to work.
