on my own - part nine

Start from the beginning

"I mean... I guess I can take you back."

You sat at a lunch table outside with Jay, Carlos, Evie, Lonnie, and Jane, observing the Auradon drama circulating the courtyard. Chad was still following Harry around like a lost puppy, causing Audrey to storm over to where you sat, casually enjoying your lunch.

"Y/N!" She shouted, fury written on her face.

You raised an eyebrow, "Yes, Audrey?"

"Chad broke up with me today because of your mangy pirate!" She declared, dropping down into the seat beside you. You furrowed your eyebrows.

"Harry has nothing to do with your unhealthy relationship," You retorted, rolling your eyes. Audrey turned to you with a slack jaw.

"Our relationship is not unhealthy!"

You sighed, wiping your hands on a napkin. "Audrey, you literally call every shot in your relationship, and not in the cute way. Chad had no say in anything. And he was way too into himself to be in a relationship. He was only with you to start with because it looked good for his image. Now, the only thing he's concerned about is getting attention. He's used to being one of the most attractive guys here. Now, the most attractive guy here is Harry. He's got the whole bad boy villain thing going on in a school of good boy princes. So, Chad wants him to show him how to be wanted again."

Audrey stared at you silently for a solid five minutes, not saying a word. You sighed, rubbing your temples. "He wants to be hot like my mangy pirate."

Audrey narrowed her eyes, glaring a you. "I know what you meant, Y/N. I just don't know how to fix it."

You shrugged, "Give him the attention he wants. Or just wait. Let it ride its course. It'll be over soon enough."

"And how do you know that? What if I isn't some phase and he stays all gross and villain-y?" Audrey asked, obviously distraught about the whole thing. It was a rare crack in her façade. As much as you enjoyed seeing the overly perfect girl freaking out, it unnerved you in a way. You felt the urge to comfort her for once, instead of doing the villain thing and laughing at her misfortune.

"Look, Harry is like a child. He has a very short attention span. He'll get tired of Chad soon. He only has the attention span for one blond idiot and that's Gil. I give it maybe a week. Until then, I'll make sure he doesn't get into too much trouble," You promised, rubbing her shoulder comfortingly.

Audrey visibly relaxed because, as much as she hated to admit it, she trusted your word. She also trusted that you'd knock some sense into her -now ex- boyfriend. "Thanks, Y/N. I have the noes from the classes you missed, if you want to borrow them."

You smiled and nodded, thanking her before she left to go back to her other friends. "Am I going crazy or was Audrey actually... nice to me?"

"So, are you adjusting to life at Auradon yet?" You asked from where you sat on Harry's bed, helping him with his remedial goodness homework. Harry scoffed from where he laid beside you on his back, homework long forgotten, "It's torture. So much happiness and niceness and apologies and bleh. I have to be in fencing uniform to sword fight people. And even then it's not real sword fighting."

You laughed at Harry's pouting, "Poor baby."

"There is one thing about this place I rather like," He hummed, sly smirk playing on his face. "Ye'r here."

You smiled, leaning down so your noses were touching. "Harry?"

"Hm?" He replied, hands creeping up to rest on your waist.

"I love you."

A smile grew on his face at the same time guilt began to turn his stomach inside out. The fact that you were in his arms again was almost too good to be true. He was scared that he would open his eyes and be alone in his room on the ship, an magical barrier lying between him and the person he would put his life on the line for. He would so willingly give up his life if it meant you keep yours... But he couldn't seem to give up his orders to keep you happy.

He was raised on Pirate Codes. And the most important code that a pirate honored was to never question Captain's orders. And whether Harry liked it or not, you played a role in Uma's plans.

It was almost like the two sides of him were trying to fight for total control. His inner villain would never allow him to betray his Captain or Crew. A true pirate never gave anything but complete loyalty to their fellow shipmates. Not even for love. Nothing could come between him and the Greater Evil. It had no time for romance or goodness. He will always be the son of Captain Hook. He will not stop until he destroys the mockery his father has made of their family name.

But, the side that loved you, the side that stopped him from going completely insane like his father, begged him night and day. Don' do this to her, she hasn't done anything to deserve what that sea wench has planned. You swore you'd never hurt her, don't change that now.

For villains like himself, evil always wins.

"I love you too."

And this time is no different.
