In the state of Georgia. Somewhere in Atlanta in the playground. Where it's a nice warm day for the kids to be having fun in the playground. All filled with joys. All but one. And this one person sitting under a dark shade of a willow tree, was an African-American young girl with long dark micro braids with a lavender bow tied back in a ponytail, big brown eyes, and is wearing a lavender short sleeved shirt, short blue jean dungarees, white sneakers along with ankle-length white socks, and small gold hoop earrings, who's named Imani Clarkson. she's a shy young 10 year old who had trouble making friends because of her social anxiety.
She was sitting there, hugging her knees with her chin on top of it, sadly watching the kids having fun with each other but her. All she want is someone to play or hang with but they just leave her hanging. As if she were invisible to them. Then her brown eyes are filling up with tears and ducked her head and started sobbing softly.
Until all of a sudden a person came up to her. "Hey." Said the voice, until Imani looked up to see who was speaking to her as she already wipe away her tears quickly? It was a Caucasian boy about her age, with brown shaggy hair and blue-grey eyes, and is wearing a blue with small white striped short sleeved shirt, khaki pants, and black and white sneakers.
"Are you ok?" He asked again, when Imani nodded lyingly and looked back down, but he can tell she's lying when he noticed her tear stained cheeks. "You're not ok. I can tell you've been crying." This boy said again.
He then sat next to her under the shade of a willow tree. "Now can you please tell me what's the matter?" He asked her curiously, then she looked at him with her brown eyes of sadness and spoke. "I don't have anyone to play with." She answered softly.
The young Caucasian boy looked at her confusingly. "What do you mean? There's plenty of people to play with." He spoke calmly to her but she gives out her frustration. "That's the problem! When I tried to make one, no one seems to notice me as if I don't exist!" Imani explained in frustration, then cries and ducks her head into her knees while holding it together with both of her arms.
"You have no idea what's it like to be a shy kid that no one wants to talk or be friends with!" She says as she continues to sob softly.
This young Caucasian boy looked at her, feeling sorry that she had to feel this way. So, he spot a sweet white daisy as he picks it up and places it in between her ear until she looked up at him again when she notice he put something in between her ear.
"I can be your friend." He said to her softly as she wipe away a tear once more. "You will?" Imani said. "Of course. I mean why wouldn't I be? I think you're nice, friendly, and a great person to talk and play with." He replied nicely as he smiled for Imani and she returned a light smile.
"That was a very nicest thing anyone ever said to me. Thank you so much.. I'm sorry but I never got a chance to know your name?" She told him. "Oh right, almost forgot. I'm Nelson McCauley, and yours is?" Nelson asks. "Imani Clarkson." She answered. "That's a pretty name for you." Nelson complemented nicely for her as she blushed lightly. "Thank you." Imani replied as Nelson stands up and turns to face her.
"So, do you want play on the swing set?" He asked her as she answered with a nod for yes. Nelson then gives out his hand to help her get up on her feet as they walk towards the swing set to have fun.
It's been a wonderful afternoon for the two preteens, they're swinging on a swing set, taking turns sliding down the slide, and chasing around each other joyfully. After that fun activity they went back under a willow tree getting to know each other like, favorite tv shows or movies, families, favorite color, they're background story, etc..
"Ok, so what school do you go now?" Nelson asked. "I now go to Parkside elementary school." Imani answered when the brown haired boy looked at her surprisingly happy. "For real?! I also go to that school as well." He exclaimed happily as the African-American girl replied with a smiled.
That is until Nelson's mother called him to come home for lunch.
"Imani, I got to get going. Mom said it's time for lunch." He told her. "Aw, do you have to?" Imani said a little sadly disappointed.
"But it's ok. We'll meet again at this spot. Promise?" Nelson said to her when Imani brightens up again. "Promise." She replied until all of sudden gives him a light peck on his left cheek.
"Bye Nelson." Imani said before running back to her mom's car. "Bye Imani!" Nelson called out to her just before she got inside the car and then droves away, leaving the Caucasian boy to walk towards to his mom and both headed towards the car to drive back home as well. It was a great day for both of them to have a friend.
