Tony Stark's POV
"Pepper I just think that it's time we start a family."
"You? Start a family? I'd love to see that."
"I'm serious! If you dont want to have a baby then we can't exactly have a family of our own."
"You know, you have money. You could always adopt a kid."
"Adopt? Are you serious?"
"Yes and, I don't know, maybe you'll find a smart kid you can-"
"I can what, get ideas off of? That's what the MIT kids are for."
"I'm just saying that it might be nice for you to provide a home for someone who doesn't have one."
"Fine- fine, we'll adopt a kid, but they are going to be the smartest fucking kid at the orphanage."
"Good, this will be good practice."
"Practice? Practice- what practice do I need, I am perfectly capable of raising a kid."
"Sure, sure."
(Y/n)'s POV
Walking home is always fun.
Especially when you don't consider your home, well, your home.
I was walking down the street with my earbuds in just enjoying the view. A lot of people take what natural beauties we have for granted and I just so happened to find a walking path that has a lot of it. I also find truly amazing graffiti on a wall here and there so that's always nice.
I was happily listening to (favorite song) when it was interrupted by a call. I checked the caller ID and saw that it was the lady at the orphanage.
I never did pay attention to names. Shes just in my phone as "Orphy Lady".
As soon as I answered the phone, she sounded really excited.
"(Y/N)! SOMEONE WANTS YOU! SOMEONE FINALLY WANTS YOU! AND FOR YOUR SMARTS NO LESS!"
I never realized how much my story kinda sorta resembles Meet The Robinsons.
"Woah, woah, calm yourself. Who wants me?"
"COME TO THE ORPHANAGE! QUICK!"
And then she hung up.
Okay? I guess I'm heading back faster. Picking up the pace I continued listening to my music, eventually making it back to the orphanage. I'm honestly surprised anyone even found this place, you never see orphanages anywhere. I walked in, immediately greeted by Orphy Lady.
"(Y/n)! Quick! Quick! We mustn't make them wait any longer!"
She pulled me by the arm into a room I've never been in before. I looked up and saw a grown ass man wearing sunglasses inside.
"Okay, did you think I'm some kind of sunshine? Because if the answer is no I'm going to seriously think you're a psychopath."
"Hm. Already starting off with a great first impression." He said.
Orphy Lady looked mad at me. "(Y/n)! Manners!"
"No no, she's fine." The man said. "I like her little remark." He finally took off his sunglasses.
That's when my brain decided to work.
"Hey! You're Tony Stark, right? Iron Man?" I asked, looking at him.
"You just realized?"
"Sorry, I was distracted by the fact that you were wearing sunglasses inside."
Tony laughed a bit then looked at Orphy Lady. "I'll take her."
"Wonderful!" She said. "We'll email the paperwork to you."
"Great. Alright kid, (Y/n) was it?" I nodded. "Let's go home. Pepper has your room set up for you, I hope you like red."
"Wait wait wait, what about my stuff?"
"Your what now?"
Wow, for as smart as this dude seems he cant figure this one out.
"I do already own stuff ya know. It's in my room, do you want me to go grab it or..?" I asked.
"Oh, yeah, yeah, sure, go get that." Tony said. I sighed and headed up to my room. I grabbed my few posters, my textbooks, binders, art supplies, and bunny plushie, and packed them all safely in my provided suitcase. With everything, I walked back downstairs and saw Tony ready to leave at the door.
"Come on, kid, I don't have all day." He opened the door for me and I looked back at the orphanage.
I'm not going to miss this place.
I waved goodbye to Orphy Lady and walked out with Tony. I walked up to what I assumed was his limo and waited for him to catch up. He eventually did and we were on our way to his... Tower? Mansion?
Where do rich people live?
Does he just live in Stark Tower?
Tony interrupted my thoughts. "So kid, how old are you? 12?"
"14." I replied.
"So you're a freshman?"
"Sophomore."
"Oh, so you're special."
"Isn't that why you adopted me?" I asked, a little annoyed.
"I was just messing with you Kid."
"Whatever Tony." I looked out the window.
"You know, Kid, you can call me... Dad, now."
"I might call you that once you stop calling me Kid, Tony."
"Yeah that's fair."
It's kind of hard to believe. So far, nobody's wanted me, for 14 years. Now all the sudden some superhero with a shit ton of money and smarts just wants me. This has got to be some kind of dream. I'm going to wake up tomorrow back in the orphanage getting ready for school.
~~~
I didn't.
In fact I haven't for the past month.
I've still attended Midtown Tech, but now I go home to... Superheroes.
Honestly, the highlight of being adopted has been Pepper. She's treating me as if I was her child which I'm pretty sure I am judging by her relationship with Tony. She's just been the perfect mother to me and honestly I couldn't be more grateful.
Tony on the other hand I'm still having some trouble getting used to. He's either always been working or trying to bond with me which is very weird for the both of us. He tried using slang once and said "Homeslice" and I stopped him before he could finish his sentence.
My room is really nice. I have a really comfortable King sized bed and an art table for me to work on my own projects. I also do every once in a while pitch in ideas for Tony's little gadgets.
Being a Stark really isn't all that bad.
