She woke up, finally. After. . . How long was it? She jerked upward, off of the worn out pillows that she had lain on for so long. She immediately grabbed the back of her neck, stiffiling a cry of pain. Gah. She thought. Where am I? Not daring to speak, should she alarm anyone. She looked around. Confused at first, slowly more and more accustomed to her new surroundings. "H-hello?" When she spoke, her voice was raspy. Unused all this time.
A little girl entered the room, no more than 15 at the most. "Oh good, you're awake!" She beamed. "What do you remember?"
"Wha-?" She stammered, alarmed at the girls mere presence. "Who are-?"
The young girl cut her off before she could even finish. "My name? Well, most would call me Alex. What's yours? If you remember?"
"'my name?' That I am afraid I do not know." She replied automatically. As if it was engraved into her memory. Hmmm this girl. . . She's. . Strange. To say the least. Ah, but of course the expression on the girl's gorgeous face was all to unexpected and unfamiliar.
"Yay! That means. . ." She trailed off. "Mom said I could name you if you didn't already know your name, and if I found you awake during my shift in watching you."
This girl is crazy. . .
"How about. . . Asuna? Asuna Joseph! Yes its perfect!!" She beamed once again.
"It's alright. For now. Thank you." As Asuna went to get up, she collapsed back onto the bed and grunted from the pain of slamming back onto the hard bed. "Gah! Ow!" When she opened her eyes, which had shut sometime during the collapsing, the girl, Alex, was standing over her. Worry clear in her eyes.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah. . . I think?" She leaned forward again, this time nearly colliding with Alex.
"Maybe you should-"
"No! I shouldn't!" She went to stand, still weak. She stumbled over towards the door.
"You really shouldn't be leaving. Not in your state. . ." Alex grumbled.
"Yeah, well I don't care!" Asuna snapped back. Supprised at her own harshness towards the child.
"B-but. . ." Alex was almost to tears now. Which made Asuna sad, sad to see that she had caused the tears, the sadness.
"I-I'm sorry, kid." She rushed to the girls side, wrapping her arms gently around her shoulders.
She sniffed. "I-Its. . . Okay. Really, it is!" The smile had returned to her lips, once again brightening her face. "Maybe it is time to take you outside tho. . ."
"R-really?" Asuna asked starting to smile.
"Yes!"
