The House

The car door closes with a loud thump. I still felt a bit overwhelmed that we were moving. I look up.

"That house ..." I say under my breath.

"Yeah, it might be a bit old looking, but we can make it work." My sister says trying to lift up my spirits. It seems like she heard me.

I stay silent and do not respond. It still feels cold even though I'm wearing my favorite hoodie. The weather is a big change here, and I do not really like that fact.

"Kammi, can you help with that box over there?" My mom asks, nodding her head towards a box full of kitchen supplies sitting in the open car trunk.

I take the box.

"Ah, where did I put the keys?" My dad says anxiously while tapping his pockets trying to look for the keys of the new house.

"Dad, they're inside the car ..." I point out looking through our dirty windows to the front seat.

"Oh my how could I have forgotten?" Says Dad, as he puts down the box he was previously holding to take out his car keys.

While I retrieve the house keys, we're already on our way to the front porch, my big sister, Hazuki, leading the way. My sister was going to start in her Junior year at High School. Part of the reason was because Hazuki was having a hard time at school, socially. So we hope to start out this new year in this side of town. Sometimes I might act like I do not, but I really do care about her, and her well being, even though I did not want to leave, I still feel like moving here for the better.

"So are you girls excited that you're going to start at a new school after winter break?" My mom asks us, even though she knows what I'm going to say.

"I just hope it's better here ..." My sister says, looking down while she remembers all the things that happened before.

"Aw, honey, don't thing negative like that, we're starting out in this part of town, where everyone could be different." My mom adds, as if that helps Hazuki not feel bad.

"Could be .." I repeat under my breath, but a bit loud for mom and Hazuki to hear. I remember what they did to her .. that was unforgivable, and I just wish that never happened. I really want things to be different here, but you never know.

"Ah, here we go! Now we can go in." My dad says holding up the key to this gory house.

We make way for him to open the door, and when he does ..

"Oh wow this looks vintage!" My sister says, as she's a bit into fashion design, she can get excited about anything that looks fashionable.

"More like a Victorian Era ..." I say looking at all of the old, worn out, scattered around in different places of the entrance of the house.

"Well, for now!" Hazuki says, as if she thinks we could simply give a makeover to this hell of a place.

"Anyway, that does not matter, we can clean up later, but for now you can go pick your rooms!" My dad says cheerfully as he takes a few steps into the house.

The floor creaks.

"This is gonna take a while ... this house is huge!" I say, from the few bits knowledge I had while looking at this house from the outside.

"Well then hurry up!" My sister says cheerfully as she runs to the stairs.

"Oh god..." I think to myself.
