My wounds looked worse the second day I had them. The bruise around my eye became darker, the cut on my lip was swollen along with my broken nose. Most girls I feel would be having a panic attack at how they lost their looks. I didn't care, I lost my beauty a while ago.

I felt I lost it when I got the long scar down my arm from when I fell down a large steep hill, my arm got snagged on some thorns and it torn the skin open. There was a scar on my cheek from when I was attacked by a friend of mine, one on my back, my legs were covered in them from the farming equipment. It seemed I never had clear skin anymore. Bruises, cuts, and scars littered my body.

I couldn't care less though. I'm still alive and that's all that mattered.

I looked into the mirror. My nose was definitely broken badly. I knew I had to place back the bone and cartilage so it wouldn't interfere with my breathing.

So I took a deep breath and placed a rag in my mouth. I grabbed my nose and yanked I back into place. I yelped into the towel as blood fell from my nose in the bucket full. I took the towel out of my mouth and held it to my nose as not to make a mess, tilting my head forward so I would drown in my own blood.

It took about five minutes for it to stop, but it was better once it did. My nose was still swollen, but now my nostrils were working. I put a wrapping around it to protect it. I sighed and realized it was time to make breakfast.

I ate the same thing every morning. Eggs, spinach, and pork. I freeze everything that's still good from supermarkets so they last longer. I ate them slowly since my lip hurt particularly bad. I didn't really want to eat, but it wasn't exactly a choice I had right now. I have to eat 2,500 calories a day minimum to stay alive.

I calculated the approximate calorie count in my breakfast. I came up with 500. Not bad, only 2,000 more to go. I sighed and went out to scavenge. I had my green pack on with a water bottle filled with filtered water in it. I tied my hiking boots tightly, along with my tight tank top on top, with a light long sleeve flannel on top to avoid sunburn. I put on my sun hat, with leggings for pants. White leggings of course.

I walked outside, it was only 10 am, but the sun was already blistering. The store was a 4 mile hike, so I can do the hike in a little under an hour. It seems like a while, but after one gets used to walking that far and that long it seems like 5 minutes sometimes.

I finally arrived at the abandoned store. It was a Hannaford's, fortunately the sun lace was frozen because of a broken AC unit, so it keeps things fresh a long time.

I stepped into the store, all of a sudden I could see my breathe in front of me. It floated away like dust, or like a mistakes that I've made. I just watched my breathe fly away for a minute. It reminded me of how easy it was for my family to float away.

It stopped making me cry a while ago though. I don't know how long it has been since I last cried, or genuinely smiled or laughed. In fact, I feel just apathetic all the time. I didn't need people anymore, or emotions. It should make me sad to have to think like that, but for some reason it didn't. Like I said, apathetic.

I walked into the store and started stuffing my pack with anything I'm going to need for the next month. Frozen fruit and veggies, eggs, new water filter, vodka, first aid. I checked them all off my list. Frozen beef, chicken, pork. Canned beans, canned corn, canned everything. Boxed food was on my list too. The stuff that barely ever spoils.

I sighed and put ice into my pack to keep everything cold. I think I'm good for now. I quietly crept out of the store trying not to make too much noise. I enjoyed the silence. In fact, I decided to avoid the heat outside and sit down in the store. I pull out one of my favorite books. It was one my father gave me. The Catcher in the Rye.

I sat down and looked at the cover. Completely white with three colored stripes in the top corner. Big, bold, black words spelled out Catcher in the Rye. I smiled and thought about the arguments I had with my father over the book.

He didn't like the book at all, and I loved it. We used to debate for hours whether or not the book was any good. It's so beautifully written and wonderfully crafted, showing the vulnerability of teenagers in this world.

Too bad I couldn't have lived in the 40s and 50s. I would've fit right in. Before the war, I frequently wore the vintage style dresses with bright red lip stick and flats. It was a cute look for me really, I had a wider waist, so wearing those dresses gave me an hour glass appearance. I missed it so much. The dresses, the games, the books, the life I lived.

CRASH

I gasped as I heard the noise.

"Find the girl. You heard what Master Thanos said! FIND HER!"

I heard the store being torn apart. I ran quietly throughout the store to find a hiding place. It was aisle after aisle of danger. I couldn't find a place anywhere! Everywhere there was a spot where someone could see me!

I ran to the back of the store and found a meat locker! It was where the butcher stored his clothing during the day. I closed it and pinned it so I could get out later. I could see through the holes of the locker. I saw an alien creature walk in.

It scanned the room looking for something, a sign of life. He ushered a robot in. It had a scanner on it. It flowed red and scanned the room. It floated over to the locker. I ducked my head quietly under the vents. It scanned the locker.

Everything went silent.

It was like death entered the room. I covered my mouth so my breathing couldn't be heard.

Silence prevailed.

I sat still... so still.

I had to hold my breathe as not to be heard!

It felt like hours, sitting there in the silence.

I had heard the alien creature walk over to the locker. Tears began to flow down my cheeks. He opened the robot. I heard paper being rustled around. He chuckled.

"You almost bested me child. But I'd appreciate it if you came out of the locker."

I couldn't move! I'd been caught by Thanos and his army. I heard a sigh from outside.

"Just come out, I seriously don't want to have to drag you out of the damn locker. I'll give you 10 seconds."

"10"

I began to panic. I couldn't move!!

"9"

No!! I refuse to die!!

"8"

I began to pray! I didn't believe in god, but I'm going to believe in him for the next few minutes in hopes that he'll save me!!

"7"

"6"

My mind went silent.

"5"

"4"

"3"

I cried out loud now.

"2"

"1"

Silence.

Then the locker ripped open and there he was in front of me. He grabbed me by my shirt collar and pulled me to his ugly face. I dropped my back, and my water bottle fell out of my bag.

"I'm sick of these games child. I'm taking you to Thanos where he'll determine your fate."

He sprayed me with some gas and before I knew it, I was out cold.
