Protect Her

Chapter 2

I woke up screaming in my bed at sunrise, my body was cold even though there was a quilt around me. My breathing was hard and it felt like I was gonna die. I was frozen in fear and it was like I couldn't move at all. Tingles went up my arms and down to my legs until I could move again. My hand instinctively went straight for my neck, feeling for any scars or what not but there was nothing there.

That's impossible, Florence bit me. He bit me! I check again but there is still nothing. Was I dreaming? No that's not right, it was too real. I reached for my cell phone and checked out the time. July 15th, 2010 was the date and the time was a little after 5. No, that's still not right. Yesterday morning when I went to Kendra's house was July 15th, did I dream all that up?

You most likely did, Odette, you stupid girl. God Odette, you really need to get this job done or it'll get to you. I sighed at my thoughts trust me I wanted this done too. I stood up from my bed and walked to the bathroom again, the feeling of déjà vu happening was bothering me. I slipped into the shower only to feel the cold blast and I gave a little squeak.

You didn't pay your bill again Odette, I cursed. I needed to get out of here soon but there was still so much to think about. What happened to me, was it all a dream? And if it was, was that dream trying to tell me something like my dreams always do? No Odette you were definatly not dreaming that up. It was way to real, but then again my dreams have been a lot crazier and r-rated at the most.

I allowed myself to stay in the cold shower for the next 15 minutes until I was certain I was awake. Walking to my closet I grabbed an a-line skirt and a silk blouse I had bought when I first moved into town. The blouse was rather old, well not really maybe a few months. And I had only worn it once.

Slipping on the silk blouse and skirt I stared into the mirror that stood in the back corner. My auburn hair was still dripping wet from the cold shower and my violet eyes stared cold at the reflection. I was beautiful, so I had been told. But people like me were meant to be. As in people like me, I mean a vampire hunter. I was born to hunt and kill the cold-blooded ones and then move on to others.

I turned away from the mirror and stared outside, the sun was still hidden behind its barrier of clouds just like in my dream and the weather had the chances of rain, déjà vu much? My phone started to play its ring tone "Ring-a-ling" by the Black Eyed Peas and I groaned. I hated that tone, it was annoying but I was way to busy with other things to change it.

"Hello?" I said into the phone.

"Hey Odette, it's Fabian," I could hear the smile in his voice.

"Oh, hi?" how'd he get my cell??

"So, I was kind of hoping we could hang out today."

"Oh umm, I can't I have to go to work at the diner on campus sorry," I said sincerely, if my dream was trying to tell me something then I was making sure I wasn't gonna go to Kendra's place until later, much later.

"Oh how bout we do lunch there then?" he asked.

"If you want," I say to him. "I gotta go though. Do you know where Florence is though?"

"Uhh..." he sounded uncomfortable.

"Uhh... what?" what's he hiding.

"He's still at Kendra's place so I don't know what to say," he says sheepishly.

"Oh alright," you're not going there any time soon Odette. "Well bye." I hang up the call before he could respond and slip it into my pocket. Off to work Odette and we'll see where this day shall take you.
