I'm Irish, not Irish like from Ireland but my name is Irish. My parents thought that naming me Irish would be cool. I don't look Irish, I'm not even near to looking caucasian. I'm Asian, does that make sense? Nothing makes sense to me anyway, but my parents moved here in Boston and were citizens before I was born, so technically, I'm American. But that's not what this story is about.
I'm at my sophomore year, and I'm kind of struggling ever since the first day. Nobody seems to care, so I don't care too.
I don't have any friends, but I do talk to people, like Jhane (it's pronounced as Juh-hane) and Echo, I don't consider them my friends because friends supposed to make your school life more easier and enjoyable, but they don't, so no... they are not my friends.
I should get out of bed right now but it's Saturday, I should just sleep more.
"The stars are telling me to tell you that you've already found your soulmate." I heard the tiny voice from the speaker at the side of the table. What am I even doing here? I looked at the place and it looks like the space with star signs all over, cute.
"I never met anyone new except you though." I replied, I felt the speaker vibrate as the person in front of me chuckles, although I can't see their face I made someone laugh today, that's a first.
"Can I know your name now?" I asked and suddenly the bell rang.
"Your time is up." The tarot reader said with their voice that is obviously had undergo into a few rearrangements, because it sounds like an elf.
"Should I leave now?" I asked.
"You should." The tarot reader replied in their tiny voice.
"Can I have your number?"
"That is against the rules." I felt a hand wrapped around my wrist, it's the security, taking me out of the booth. This feels so real, someone is dragging me across the cement. Someone is dragging me?
I opened my eyes and the first thing I see is the white ceiling that is obviously not my room. First, my room is in the color of navy blue, second, this light... is in the hallway, the hallway?
"The hallway!" I screamed so loud I think I broke all the lamp inside the house.
I stood up as soon as I realized that I was being dragged to the living room by my older brother Aldrich. He let loose his hand in my wrist and mouthed sorry and walked away, he's weird.
And that dream is crazy, although it lasted like 10 minutes, it's crazy. I wouldn't go to some sort of reading because it freaks me out. How come a person that doesn't even know you knows things about you?
I fixed my pajamas and went to the kitchen. Mom is making pancakes and dad is reading newspaper while drinking his black coffee. Typical morning and a typical household. My mom placed plates in the table and I helped her by grabbing utensils and setting it up.
"Hey Rish, you wanna tag along with me and Eunice?" My annoying brother asks while holding his phone and texting Eunice. He looks like he's enjoying his chat with his girlfriend. I'm their third wheel every date, and my brother's excuse is "Mom doesn't want only me to have fun." I never had fun every time I go out with them.
"Come on sis, it'll be fun!"
"Where are we going anyway?" I asked before sitting down in my seat and hold my fork ready to dig in.
"The carnival."
"What am I going to do at a carnival?"
"Play games? Search for your soulmate?" He said as he taps o his phone. Mom clearly is not pleased about this, she put her fork down and clasp her hand and gave Aldrich the look, the look that when you should put down that damn phone or I'll take it. He immediately felt the stare and put his phone away and started to eat. My mom loosen her hands and continued to eat.
