Forgotten

When your eyes met mine,
On that dark summer evening,
My torso became numb,
As I ignored a year full of meaning.

As I drove away from you,
Without a word being said,
I switched on my left signal,
And carelessly looked ahead.

But predictably it made its return,
The passion that I had flung,
As the elastic band that had held it
snapped it back at my lung.

As I fought to catch some air,
A river of yours rushed through,
And drenched my arid body
With water of color and hue.

But eventually the colors faded,
And the flood water began to recede.

Then I started to wait endlessly
For the dam to break and bleed.
